Trump vs. Reagan: Who is actually right about the economy?

In this monologue, personal development coach TJ Walker blends economic commentary, political satire, and self‑help promotion to argue that the Trump administration’s policies are harming ordinary Americans. He opens with Pew Research data on widespread inability to afford basic necessities, then dismisses liberal economists and claims to listen only to conservatives. Walker contrasts Ronald Reagan’s 1987 warning that tariffs hurt workers with Trump’s 2023‑24 tariff war with Canada and China, noting Supreme Court strikes and labeling the trade conflict “the dumbest trade war in history.” He blames the ongoing war in Iran for rising gas prices, citing Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon and Rand Paul as the only voices warning against it, and mocks Trump’s “vision board” for the conflict. Next, he critiques Trump’s $100,000 skilled‑worker visa fee, arguing it raises food prices by reducing farm labor. Walker then attacks the Trump cabinet’s treatment of women, citing Kimberly Guilfoyle’s alleged donor‑paid credit‑card bill, the rapid firing of female officials, and Trump’s misogynistic behavior, offering satirical “career‑coach” advice for women seeking cabinet jobs. He lampoons Vice President J.D. Vance’s political flip‑flopping and predicts his reaction if Trump were impeached. Walker also ridicules Pete Hegseth’s war‑room antics and the Pentagon’s autonomous weapons debate. Throughout, he intersperses promotions for his Ultimize online courses, offering free communication and habit‑building classes. The piece mixes factual claims, hyperbolic satire, and personal‑development marketing to present a conservative‑leaning but highly critical view of Trump’s economic and personnel decisions.

Ultimize. Close to half of Americans now say they can't afford basic necessities, according to Pew Research. Food, housing, medical costs, gas. The other half just haven't opened the mail yet. Nearly 3 out of 4 lower-income adults struggled to pay for the basics this past year. As a personal development guy, my first tip was a gratitude journal. Then I priced the journal. So, what's driving prices up? Liberal economists have a whole list: tariffs, the war in Iran, cutting legal immigration. But hey, I'm a sane, sensible centrist, just a guy from North Carolina. So, I threw out every liberal economist, all of them. After all, they drive Priuses and say the word data like it's a hug. Instead, today I'm only going to listen to conservatives. And folks, I have to tell you, it's worse. Donald Trump is in a fight with Ronald Reagan. Reagan has been dead for 22 years, and Reagan is winning. In 1987, Reagan warned that tariffs hurt every American worker and consumer. Last year, Ontario ran an ad of Reagan saying exactly that, and Trump got so mad he ended trade talks with Canada. He rage quit an entire country over a dead man's radio address. And I get the appeal. Tariffs sound tough. Making China pay feels fantastic. Except China doesn't pay at the register. You do. Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal called it, quote, the dumbest trade war in history. Rupert Murdoch, the man owns Fox News, and even he said too far. Then in February, the Supreme Court struck down most of Trump's tariffs. 6 to 3, including 2 justices Trump appointed himself. As a life coach, I can tell you, when your own handpicked judges vote against you, that's not a plot, that's an intervention. Trump's response? A brand new global tariff. Reagan isn't rolling in his grave, he's trying to dig out, and the shovel is imported. Second, the war in Iran. 7 months in, and the Times says gas prices are up because of it. And who warned against war with Iran? Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, Rand Paul. Not a bunch of crazy-eyed liberals. When Steve Bannon is your voice of restraint, you have driven past the exit, the rest stop, and the state line. Bannon looks like a man who sleeps in a duffel bag behind a Waffle House, and even he said, don't do this. My tip for any war: before you start one, write down how it ends. Trump's vision board for Iran is a picture of a gas pump with a sticky note that says, somebody else's problem. Third, legal immigration. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, MAGA's 2 favored billionaire hall monitors, begged, begged Trump to protect skilled worker visas. Trump slapped a $100,000 fee on them. And who complained that immigration raids were taking Very good, longtime workers away from farms and hotels? Donald Trump. Last year, he agreed with economists for one entire afternoon, then took a nap and got over it. Fewer people picking lettuce means lettuce costs more. That's not woke, that's lettuce. So here's the conservative case against Trump's economy. Ronald Reagan, Rupert Murdoch, Steve Bannon, Elon Musk, and 2 Trump judges. That's not the resistance, that's a Mar-a-Lago guest list. Would you like to be the sort of successful person who is dominating news, at least in your industry? Well, if so, it's time to up your skills. At ultimize.com, I've created online courses to help you do that. Now here's the thing, no obligation, you can get a free course on communication skills, a free course on how to build better habits. All you have to do is go to ultimize.com. That's ultimize.com. No obligation. Go there now. Speaking of people who used to be on that guest list, Kimberly Guilfoyle was once engaged to Donald Trump Jr. This week, Donald Trump forced her out as ambassador to Greece and said, she, I guess, dated my son a long time ago. I guess? He talks about his golf handicap with more commitment. The Wall Street Journal reported she asked a donor to pay off her $100,000 American Express bill before her confirmation vote. She denies it. Trump said he didn't like what I read. Huge news. Nobody's ever seen him read. As a personal finance coach, I teach the debt snowball. Pay off your smallest, like Balance first. The Journal is describing the debt avalanche where a donor buries your entire balance right before a Senate vote. In fairness, the White House says Trump hires purely on merit, not gender. I love that— merit. Here's the merit report: 4 of his 8 top women officials gone in 3 months this spring, everyone replaced by a man. Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth texts war plans to a journalist and still has a parking space. In Trump's world, women get fired for disloyalty. Men get fired for— actually, men don't get fired. And honestly, why is anyone surprised? This man has treated women like dirt his whole life, and Washington is shocked he's treating women like dirt. It's like hiring a raccoon as your garbage consultant and being stunned by the report. A New York jury already found him liable for sexual abuse of a woman in a civil case. So by Trump standards, Firing a woman at a press briefing is personal growth. The only shocking thing is that nobody's caught him performing the Access Hollywood greatest hits in the Oval Office yet. Trump treats women the way he treats Playboy magazine, and he knows Playboy. He was on the COVID in 1990. He's fascinated at first, drools for a couple of weeks. By the end of the month, it's in the garbage because the new issue just came out and it's better. And let's be fair, he told us, make America great again. Great when? The 1950s. Where were women in the 1950s? In the kitchen, in an apron, asking their husband if they could please, please, please open a credit card account. Again was always doing a lot of work. Again was an apron. So as a career coach, here's my advice for any woman who wants to serve in the Trump cabinet. Even for the 2 weeks the job usually lasts. Step 1, hair extensions. Big ones, long ones. Step 2, lip implants. Step 3, cheek implants. Step 4, sucking up. Olympic-level gold medal sucking up. Steps 5 through 100, irrelevant. Nobody's reading your resume. He doesn't read his intelligence briefings. And when he fires you, he'll swear he barely knew you. She, I guess, worked in my cabinet a long time ago. From a man who forgets the women he hired to a man who forgets everything he ever believed. J.D. Vance went to a rally in Texas this week and told a supporter, I love you too, sir, in a totally platonic way. To be clear, I'm the vice president, not James Tallarico. Wink wink, nudge nudge. Tallarico is the Democratic Senate nominee, and he has a longtime girlfriend. J.D. Vance has a longtime boss he once privately compared to Hitler. Only one of those men is in a relationship built on lies, and he's the one wearing the red tie. That's not me talking. In 2016, J.D. Vance called Trump cultural heroin and texted a friend that Trump might be America's Hitler. Today, he's Trump's vice president. That's not a career arc; that's a hostage video with a penchant. I'll give JD this: rowdy crowds want a fighter, and he gives them one. He just switches sides every time the wind changes. Here's my prediction: if Trump were ever impeached, convicted of treason, and hauled off to prison or worse, JD would beat the U.S. Marshals to the microphone. Folks, I called this in 2016. Check my texts. And for the first time in 10 years, he'd be telling the truth. This is the same man who called America's leaders childless cat ladies. Now he's doing 7th-grade locker room material about another man's love life. He also said he never wants to see Tallarico's web browser history. JD, we don't need your browser history. We've seen your 2016 texts. Senator Jon Ossoff says 40% of Americans are going without food or healthcare to afford gas while these guys trade schoolyard taunts. Remember the Pew numbers? Half the country can't afford groceries and the vice president is working on his tight 5. JD, I'd recommend my online course, Finding Your Authentic Self, but you'd have to buy 2 seats and you'd fight yourself over the window. And speaking of men who've mysteriously not been fired, Pete Hegseth got heckled not once, not twice, but 5 times in 30 minutes at a NOW convention? No. A Democratic convention? No. An Army conference this week. Protesters scattered around the room took turns shouting, war criminal and Nazi. Security carried one woman out by her arms and legs like a rolled-up rug at a yard sale. Hegseth finally said, appears we have a bit of a tactic. 7 months into the Iran War, and that is the first tactic Pete Hegseth has identified. I'll give him credit. When one protester yelled, he shot back, she thinks highly of me. Genuinely good line. It's also the last time anyone thought highly of him. A Marquette poll found only 25% of Americans view him favorably. The panel's topic was autonomous weapons, systems that make life and death decisions with no human in charge. So basically the Pentagon org chart. And when YouGov asked who's next out of the cabinet, Americans' top pick was Pete. Every war has tragic friendly fire, and I hope this one has none, but Pete should be careful. In this administration, friendly fire is when your friend Donald Fires you. Honestly, Pete has exceeded my expectations. I figured by now he'd be gone on a bender, hotwired an Abrams tank, and flattened Hillary Clinton's house in Washington. He has not done that. So growth. He's been on the job about 21 months, which may be the longest he's ever held a job without being fired for incompetence. Okay, technically he spent years at Fox and Friends weekend, but That's not really a job. That's a couch with makeup and a teleprompter. I know, I've sat on those couches. He shared secret war plans in a group chat that included the editor of The Atlantic. My tip, before you text an airstrike, do what I do before I text my wife— read the names twice. He renamed himself Secretary of War because Secretary of Defense implied he might have to defend something. And Pete's real job security? He's the man in this cabinet. That's tenure. So here's my vision board for America this week: groceries you can afford, a war with an ending, and a cabinet where the guy who texts attack plans to a reporter gets fired before the woman who did a TV ad. I'll make the board bigger, but the glue stick is tariffed. Ultimize.
