TJ Walker says great communicators aren't born with special talent. They simply enjoy speaking and look like they're having fun doing it. Practice and cutting filler words help, but the real difference is comfort and genuine enthusiasm.

What makes star communicators really sparkle? Here's the secret. It's nothing genetic. It's nothing that's just innate. They're not necessarily smarter than the rest of us. Here's the big difference. They have tremendous fun when they're communicating. The look in their eye, the expression on their face. They just look like they are having a bowl. Doesn't matter if you admire and love Oprah or Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan or Winston Churchill, regardless of your ideology or politics. I'm not talking about politics here. Great communicators look like and act like and sound like they are having the time of their life when they are speaking. Doesn't matter if they're talking to three friends at dinner or a cocktail party, or giving an impromptu remarks at or a toast at a wedding, or addressing parliament or the United States Congress. They look like they're having fun. Indeed, they are having fun. They look at every speech as an exciting opportunity to tell other people about the good things they're trying to do, the exciting things they're trying to do to make life better for the world. That's what they have in common. So if you want to be a great communicator, it's not just about more practice time. Although I am a big fan of practicing your presentations. All communications on video. It's not just about eliminating uhs and ums and ers and you knows. It's not just about having nicer slides and a PowerPoint presentation. It's about getting comfortable enough, confident enough, to the point where anytime you're speaking and talking, you're having fun.
