TJ Walker shares Cal Newport's question to ask before buying any technology: does this support something I deeply value? Walker bought an Oculus headset, realized it conflicted with his values around screen time and family, and put it in the closet.
Cal Newport has a question he asked before reintroducing any technology into his life. He asked, does this technology really support something I deeply value? If not, don't let it get back into your life. Not that long ago, I bought an Oculus headset and I was struggling with setting it up, and I finally asked myself, why am I struggling? Why am I postponing this? Why am I procrastinating? And it finally occurred to me it's because it's not really a deeply held value in my life to spend more time staring at screens and to have my family members staring at screens. So it sits in the closet where it belongs. Please follow the TJ Walker habit.
