Let's be honest. The diet drink industry is a fraud dressed up in a skinny can we hear the word diet or zero sugar and suddenly it's a moral hall pass to eat and drink garbage? It's okay. I had a Diet Coke with my cheeseburger, so it cancels out. Nonsense. Dangerous nonsense. A new study in Nature Metabolism shows that non caloric sweeteners like aspartame and and sucralose confuse the brain, triggering hunger instead of killing it. Especially in people with obesity. They make you feel hungrier, not fuller. Why? Because your brain expects calories when it tastes sweet. When it doesn't get them, it goes searching for more. Cue the tongue. This industry isn't helping the obesity and diabetes crisis. It's fueling it with neon labels and fake health halos. Here's the truth. If you're thirsty, drink water or black coffee or tea without cream or sugar or chemical cosplay. If a soda is labeled zero, that's also your health benefit. Zero. Zero value. Zero honesty. Zero reason to keep buying.
