Short conversational excerpt from a Tom Burton YouTube video discussing tariffs as a political tool. Speakers argue that tariffs are a leverage point the president can deploy via executive order (without congressional approval) and that this leverage is being used symbolically to influence unrelated goals like border security.
So tariffs.
Are a leverage point that he can use because he can do them with an executive order, doesn't require congressional approval. Right. So it's a big stick that he can wave from that perspective. But then what do tariffs have to do with securing the border? Not a hell of a lot, but it still shows some of the overall leverage that's being used.
I'm going to get what I want, and I've got some sticks that I can wave around in the air. And that's what he's. That's what a good does.
Right.
I just thought this was a great example of, you know, everybody panicking about.
All this tariff stuff. And, you.
Know, we.
Just saw what.
You know, it just, you know, speaks to what, you know, Peter Thiel was saying.
Right. About, you know, serious but.
Not literal. Right. Take him serious that he's. He's gonna wave this. The stick around.
In the bond market. We didn't get into this, but the bond market is actually. Rates have been dropping a bit over the last couple weeks. The bond market is thinking, hey, maybe we got ahead of ourselves on the potential inflation risk associated with the tariffs, and maybe they're not going to be quite as ominous as we originally thought. So anyway, we'll see.
