Is there such a thing as "bad leads"?

Kevin Brown argues there's no such thing as bad leads, only missed opportunities to connect with potential clients. The right technology and social media approach can turn any lead into a real conversation.

Hey, so this is Kevin Brown with Lead Smart Technologies. Just. I wanted to share a couple thoughts that were on my mind. Today was just kind of winding down the day in the office and putting some thoughts together. We talk a lot about leads and trade shows and events and so forth that people are at on an ongoing, regular basis. One of the things that we hear a lot in conversation about sales leads, though, is bad leads. And I'm going to throw the idea out there, the premise that maybe there's no such thing as bad leads. There might be people that aren't currently a prospect or an opportunity for you. There might be somebody who's not the perfect buyer for you and your product within the organization. But you know, just because somebody stopped by your trade show booth and wanted to enter to win the golf putter, maybe look at the pretty girl or win the trip, or maybe just had a generic interest in what you do, if the person is at that event, their company has taken the time to send them to that event and they've taken the time to stop by your booth. I think they're a lead. And what I mean by that is they work for a company and their organization felt the event that you were at or the show that you were at was relevant enough to their company that they would take that person off of their work or out of their work, have them go to this event. So it might not be the buyer that you're looking for. It might not be the perfect ideal customer, ideal client profile that you're looking for. But I'd suggest what maybe you have here is maybe you have in that lead that you might think how it's junk based upon their title or, or something else that maybe what that really is, is that's a Trojan horse. That lead might be a Trojan horse into that organization in that company that you've not even really thought about yet. Maybe that person, because they liked your product, they stopped by. Maybe that person is willing to introduce you to somebody else within their organization. That person that you do need, want to talk to that ideal client profile that you might have. So let's stop for a minute and think about that. Right in 2020, it's the end of January, we got a couple days left in the month, and we've never in the history of business have had more tools or opportunities that we could use to get in front of people. So you get that lead from that trade show, you put it into your CRM or your market automation. I hope that it's lead smart and that we're managing that information for you. But even if that person isn't the exact profile person for you, between the right technology and software, social media activity and flat out picking up the phone and talking to that person, we've got the opportunity to leverage them to one, be a champion or ambassador for us within their organization and two, maybe be that person that says, you know, it's not me that's the decision maker, it's Judy down the hall. But here's her email and I'm going to tell her that you're going to call. Never would I suggest that any lead, or rarely, I guess I would say is any lead ever truly a bad lead. It's just what are we going to do with it? And have we put the integration of technology and media that's available to us or social media that's available to us in place where we can touch people in so many ways in so many different organizations? So that's just kind of a quick thought for the day. I'd like to throw that idea out to you that there's really no such thing as bad leads. If you agree, if you disagree, or if you'd like to chat about this, you can click the link down below to reach out to me directly and or schedule some time on my calendar. Both of those are available to you at any time. So thanks for spending a few minutes with me. Love to chat, love your thoughts and ideas.
