Avatar Review.mov

A reviewer watches Avatar in 3D and calls it a breakthrough. The 3D feels immersive rather than gimmicky, and Cameron captures human emotion on the virtual characters in ways that feel new. Four stars, but only worth seeing in 3D.

¡Hey, guys! ¿Cómo están? Um, so today I decided to give myself an early Christmas present, and I did by going to see Avatar in 3D. So here's a quick review of Avatar. Wow! Wow! So you would expect that the special effects would be fantastic, and they're beyond fantastic. The, the, the 3D, the use of 3D is very— it's odd to say this, but it's subtle. You don't, you know, it's not like stuff coming at you every minute. There are, it's maybe a couple of gratuitous uses of 3D in the film, but most of the time you feel like you're embedded in this world. And actually, you're embedded in two worlds. You're embedded in the world of the planet Pandora, and you're embedded in the world of the— essentially the military-industrial complex. I'm not going to be a lot of spoilers here, but first of all, if you're gonna see Avatar you must see it in 3D. Don't even bother going to see it in regular 2D. Don't, don't bother to do it. See it in 3D. Um, but beyond the special effects that you would expect, the— for me, the highlight of the movie, you know, the themes of the movie are pretty deep archetype sort of themes that you're going to see in a lot of movies. I mean, there's a lot of you know, Romeo and Juliet. There's a lot of, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, just went out of my head, uh, uh, there's a lot of Custer's Last Stand. There's a lot of, I mean, there's a lot of themes there that you're going to really recognize. But the thing that's really most amazing is the way that James Cameron has captured human expression, the expression of human emotion in 3D on these virtual avatar characters. I mean, it is a breakthrough. It's really a breakthrough. And emotionally, you connect with these things in ways you would not expect if you were just simply thinking about, you know, you're gonna go see some glitzy, fancy 3D movie. So there's my review. Definitely, definitely 4 stars from me for Avatar, and, uh, but don't even bother seeing it if you're not gonna see it in 3D. Uh, be interested to hear if you guys do see it, what you think of it, and, um, see ya out there.
