How to get FREE testnet $MATIC tokens for development

Get free MATIC tokens on Polygon's Mumbai testnet using MetaMask and the official faucet at faucet.polygon.technology. You'll receive 0.2 MATIC per request for testing Web3 apps and transactions without spending real money.

Alright, let's take a look and see if we received any. So now we have 0.4 meg. Hello and welcome to my channel again, or for the first time, welcome. In this channel, I talk mostly about how to get stuff done, and it's mostly within the blockchain and data space. So I'll show you quick hacks, but today, the main goal of today, I'll be showing you guys how to get MATIC on Polygon Mumbai testnet official faucet. So what is MATIC, you might ask? So MATIC is a Polygon platform token, you know, it powers It's powered by MATIC. So Polygon is powered by MATIC, and the MATIC tokens are used to govern and secure the Polygon network and pay transaction fees. So let's say you want to interact with an application that was built on Polygon, right? So you would need MATIC to interact with that specific application, and there's so many other use cases for it. So I won't dig so much into it because today I'm just showing you guys how to actually get that MATIC. into your wallet. And this is test MATIC, so it's not like you're getting it and it's worth actual money, you know. This is for development purposes or for you just play with some applications. And this is in the spirit of me following up with the other tokens that I've already demonstrated how to get. For example, ETH for the testnet, and recently I also did one for Solana. So this is kind of in the same spirit. So before we even dive into anything, you need to have a MetaMask wallet, and if you don't or don't know how to get it, I already have a video and I'm going to link it in the description below on how to download and set up your MetaMask wallet so that you can actually get tokens and start interacting with Web3 applications. They're called decentralized apps. So without further ado, let's begin. And the first thing you want to do is integrate Polygon Mumbai testnet network to your list of So if you go to your MetaMask wallet and, uh, let's go to mine here, just a second. All right, there you go. So if you go here to the dropdown, click on the dropdown, you'll see that all these are like the testnet, although there's the networks in your wallet, and you're looking for Polygon test network. If you don't have it on your wallet, there's a way you can add it so that you can start interacting or try to get these tokens into your wallet. So So the first thing you want to do is you have to navigate to chainlist.org. And chainlist.org, this is the site, how it looks like. I like it in a dark mode, so why not? Let's go to dark mode. So the first thing you want to do here first is switch over the testnets. You can leave it the way it is anyway, but— and then after that, come up here to search networks. We want Mumbai, so just search Mumbai and you'll see Mumbai coming up. And if you see here, these are just the kind of the RPC server addresses. And what you want to do is connect your wallet first. So we've connected the wallet there, and then add this network to your MetaMask wallet. So you click Add to MetaMask, and it's gonna of course give you some instructions there. It tells you switch network, so yes, click Switch Network, and it will switch— it will switch your network to MetaMask. And once you approve that, The next thing you want to do is go to your wallet again, click on it, and copy this. Copy to clipboard. Copy your address. Once you copy your address, we now need to go to the faucet and get the MATIC from the official Polygon faucet. So if you come here, it's faucet.polygon.technology, and from here what you want to do is paste your address here where it says address. Make sure that Your selected token is MATIC token. And as you can see, there's Mumbai, there's Goerli, there's DEA testnet. So we don't want to do any of these ones. So we want to go to Mumbai. This is just a network. So to get the MATIC tokens, just paste your address here and paste. Once you paste your wallet, just submit. And it's going to give you a confirmation page, which is confirm the following details: token MATIC, amount 1, Mumbai 1. So they will limit you to 1, but you can request after several intervals. So let's confirm it. So your transfer is on the way. Token will be transferred to you in 1 to 2 minutes. Just after a couple minutes, we have to check our MetaMask again just to make sure that we got that token in our wallet. Let's click that. Let's go there, Polygon testnet. So like I mentioned, start here, come to Faucet, add the wallet, and just keep checking your MetaMask, make sure that It's already something that you've got into your wallet. All right, and let's check it one more time. This is taking a little longer than 2 minutes, but let's check our wallet once again to see if we've received it. So on the wallet, it shows that we received 0.2 MATIC. So we were promised 1 MATIC, but we received 0.2 MATIC. So I'm not sure what happened there. So let's just go to the Explorer and check what happened. So let's look at internal transactions. So So the explorer is where you can see like the transactions that happened and who it came from, where it's at, if it's still processing, basically what's going on in the blockchain itself. And from here we can see that we received 0.2 MATIC. I'm not sure if we'll receive the rest or this is it. We can see that the parent transaction, this is a transaction hash, this is the block number that processed our transaction. And from this is where we got the MATIC from. So you can see like it's processing our transactions for sure, but not sure why we got 1. Well, we got 0.2, sorry, we're supposed to get 1. So yeah, it's better than nothing anyways, right? But this is just basically how to get the tokens in your, in your wallet. And we can try again and let's see if it's gonna send it again. So requesting progress, your progress, your request. Okay, cool. So 1 to 2 minutes again. So we don't want to wait this long again. So what I'll do is I'll cut it from here and bring you guys back whenever I have it in my wallet. All right, let's take a look and see if we've received any. So now we have 0.4 MATIC. So that means we got another 0.2 MATIC. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on, if they reduced the number that you can request at a given time, but now we have 0.4 MATIC. But the bottom line is, this is, you know, how to get MATIC now into your wallet. And if you want to send it, this is, you know, you can put an address, send it to somebody else. But this is, remember, this is test and this is test MATIC. If you want to get like real MATIC, then there's another network right here which is the mainnet. And same as Ethereum, we got the mainnet, but this is Polygon testnet. So this is for test, remember. So just have fun with it, play around with it. This is your kind of intro to Web3. Blockchain, you will have to learn how to interact with test networks or just even sending tokens from your wallet and to somebody else's wallet or getting tokens into your wallet. So if you practice with test networks, it's a good way to do it. You know, if you don't have any, you really don't want to transact at this point. So that was it for me, and stay tuned for other interesting tutorials like this. Or demonstrations like this.
