This is the exact story of how I got my first scholarship offer. At this point, I had nothing. A few nibbles from a few schools, but nothing really solid. Next thing I knew, I got a text from a coach that I'd been talking to for a while to hop on a phone call. It was random, just like recruiting normally is. I hop on the phone and he offers me. But the most important part is that he offered me because of our relationship. This wasn't our first conversation. We had had multiple text conversations, phone calls, and even met in person. And if it wasn't for the relationship I had built, I wouldn't have gotten that offer. So if you're trying to get your first offer, focus on the relationship first.
