Division 1 Football Commit Talks About How He Did It (Full Interview)

Jacob Hanson lost his Missouri State commitment when the program cut linebacker spots, then used social media outreach and a paid service to land offers from Furman, San Diego, Valparaiso, and Bucknell. He committed to Furman after a final visit. His mother Chelsea shares how automated outreach helped navigate the recruiting process.

Cool. So I'm here with, with Jacob, so I'll kind of let you take over. Jacob, let us know like, kind of who you are, what's your background a little bit as far as position, school, everything like that. And then. And we'll take it from there.
So I'm Jacob Hanson, class of 2025. And I went to IMG Academy and I was a linebacker there.
Awesome, man, awesome. Well, yeah, I know you just recently signed everything. Obviously we're, we're in this a couple of weeks after signing day and you know, we're just talking how much of a relief that was and everything. I guess before we get into, you know, what happened, what school you're assigned to and kind of everything like that. Tell us a little bit about your situation beforehand before you, you started working with us and what was going on.
Yeah, I was committed to Missouri State and basically everything was going well with that. And then one of the players, there were problems with the amount of numbers they were taking and they decided they weren't going to take any 2025 linebackers. So I had to part ways with them and I thought that was a place I was going to be going mid year. Didn't work out, but turned out, turned out better in the end, in my opinion.
Yeah. Yeah. Good to hear, man. Sometimes things work out for the best. But I guess with that, like, I mean, how were you feeling in the moment? I know it's know it happens. It luckily didn't happen to me in my journey. I know plenty of people that it did happen to, I guess. How, how was it going through that and kind of. How did you get through?
It was rough. It was a big surprise. When I got a phone call, I knew something might have been a little off. It's a little out of the blue and it was just a rough week in general, but I was back at home because of a hurricane. But I ended up coming back the next game. Honestly, I was really happy with how I did. I had one of my best games of the year. I was able to kind of put it past me and use it as a chip on my shoulder, kind of be like, let me prove to them, like what they're missing out on.
Definitely, man. And you, you did that well, man. You, you put up some good stats, good film. And so I guess with that, like, obviously that happened. And I remember talking to your, to your mom. I know she's off screen just a little bit there.
And.
It was. Yeah, during that whole hurricane crazy times and you were, you're Coming back home, I guess with that, like, I guess let me backtrack a little bit more, but how did you and your mom kind of find out about us, if you don't mind, Mind sharing that a little bit?
I think it was kind of through like social media. We'd seen your, a lot of your posts like X and we kind of just knew about it through there and we thought it would help us out.
Yeah, definitely, man. Yeah, I know the content's been helpful and so that's good to hear, I guess. What were your thoughts going through the process and, and working with us and everything like that.
I thought, I thought it was helpful. I mean it definitely probably the best way to get in front of the most eyes possible other than like direct one on one relationships that like coaches have with each other to refer you, but like the amount of message you sent and like the format is really getting, getting you in front of as much eyes as possible. Even though like response rates are always going to be low. The way we did it sent out a lot and it ended up going pretty well.
Yeah. Yeah. Tell us about like some of the, I guess like what, what specifically kind of happened? You mind sharing that a little bit more about like what, what responses you got, the offers you got, all that stuff.
I think had a lot of contact with like primarily FCS schools, like some ones like New Hampshire and North Dakota State and Lindenwood and Gardner Webb. Then I end up getting offers from I think Valpo Firm and where I'm going, San Diego as well, and then Bucknell. So it definitely like helped me get in front of some of those schools and, and just kind of put me in a better position for more coaches to see me in general.
100%, man. And then obviously you, you decided to, to go to Furman. I mean, tell us a little bit about that decision. You know how that felt to, to finally get committed to that spot and. Yeah, tell us, tell us more about that, man.
Yeah, just was finishing up all my visits. That was my last one. I wasn't sure where I wanted to go yet. I just want to make sure. I want to check things out at Furman. And I got there, I was really impressed by like how things looked on campus. And I got to talk with the coaching staff and I was a fan of like what they were doing. And there's obviously like a pipeline from IMG to Furman. I think there's six guys will be there now. So they really, they, they got it right and everything about it just. I liked it a lot about it. And there's no, like, big red flags. I'm like, this is not gonna work. I. I liked everything.
Awesome, man. And I, I mean, how does it, how does it feel now to. To be committed, to be assigned to that school and, and just focused on that?
It's a relief. I mean, I can focus on just my training and then like my other personal endeavors, but it's nice to be able to know, like, I have a spot like that I'm gonna be going to this summer and I'm just ready to work when I get there.
Awesome, dude. Super excited for you. I guess what just kind of wrap it up. Like, what would you say to someone that's watching this and kind of unsure about taking that next step, whether it's working with me or even just continuing with the recruiting process in general?
Yeah, I just say focus on what you can control. Like whether it just be like your workouts and training and obviously put it showing out on Friday nights when you're in season. But then once you're in the offseason working with recruiting, either like finding someone to work with or like use X and social media to your advantage. Definitely. I think a lot of kids kind of forget that and think coach will just come to them and really it doesn't. It doesn't really work like that. So put yourself out there and put your best foot forward and you really do have to put like time and effort into it. It's not just going to come to you.
Yeah, definitely, man. Hit it all on the, on the head that I couldn't put any better. So appreciate it, man. Yeah, super excited for you. It's going to be a blast over at Furman and Yeah, yeah, I appreciate you. I'm here with, with Chelsea, Jacob's mom. And so I know we, we obviously talked the most Chelsea prior to. To when we. We got started working together. So I guess I imagine you were probably the. The leader when it came to like finding about me and everything like that. I remember having a couple conversations previously. You mind telling people where. Where you found me out and kind of what. What?
Jake started following an X and I saw your posts and they were very content, rich, very informative. Had we not even worked with you, we learned a ton of information and right before Jake signed with Missouri State, which was way back in April of this, of 24, I thought, oh, we're going to work with Trenton. He's really good. But we didn't have to because we found a spot. Spot. Jake found a spot pretty quickly. But then fast forward to October. Six months later he lost his spot because it was like a fifth year senior decided to come back. So they, yeah, they had to change the numbers. So all of a sudden we were scrambling because Jake lost six months out of recruiting because he thought he was set. And I had gotten your one of your programs really inexpensive, maybe 20 bucks while you're your emails and Twitter handles. And I couldn't believe the volume of information you had. It was unbelievable. And the reason I was so interested in using you is because the volume of emails and X posts that you get out messages, there's no way a normal person could do that because you have it so automated. The amount of stuff you did in one day would take a normal person probably like eight hours. So I was just so impressed by the amount of messages you could get out, the quality of the messages. You knew what to write in the messages because this was our first time through this process. So we weren't exactly sure what to write in messages. So it helped to have your expertise. And then the follow up messages, what do you say? You know, because you keep hitting the same coaches because eventually they're going to respond after message number seven, let's say. So I was so impressed by your messages that you kept pounding away at the coaches. And I think there is the fallacy that the players are so great the coaches are going to come to them and find them. But there's so many good players. So if you're just a normal player, not like a starred player, you need the help getting out there to keep all your options open to find the right spot. So yeah, I can't recommend your services enough because I was helping Jake some and it was unbelievably amount. It took too much work. It was hours upon hours of getting messages out.
So yeah, yeah, definitely. Well, I appreciate all the kind words. I'm curious on one thing. You know, obviously you came and worked with us and you mentioned like a lot of the value that we provide. So that I'm glad to just hear that even without working with us it was you know, super helpful just getting the content. But prior to working with us and really when you like started working more in depth with us, I guess were there any fears or doubts or any worries or concerns that you had that you feel like might be common with other families as well?
I didn't have any fears, worries of concerns about your service because I thought you were doing a great job. I just had more fears about will we get the right fit for Jake Will someone notice him? So, yeah. And I think that's why we liked your service so much, because that helped calm those fears because we were doing everything we could to get him the best opportunities by getting those messages out, being on social media or really X primarily.
So, yeah, definitely. And then, yeah, last question here. Just, I guess what, what would you recommend or say to someone who's, you know, kind of hesitant about taking that next step or, you know, watching this right now and is just unsure about taking that next step?
Oh, sure, sure. Yeah, of course. I would say you need as much support as you can get in this process through the coaches, through someone like Trenton. And if you're serious about playing at the next level, if your athlete is, and if you as a parent want to support him, I think it totally makes sense to use Trenton Services because there's no way you can do the amount of work Trenton does for you because he has it so automated, so professional, and he knows what to do. So, yeah, I have no hesitations recommending Trenton and I really think you have to go after it because it's not just going to fall in your lap as much as we think it will as a parent or the athlete. We learned it doesn't really happen that way. At least that was our experience. So awesome.
Well, yeah, I appreciate it Ton. Appreciate both of you for hopping on this and talking about your experience and again, it's been a blast and super excited to see you guys succeed. So again, thanks.
