So your son's pretty good at sports. When should he start worrying about the recruiting process so that he can get a scholarship to play the sport that he loves? You should not start when he's a senior or junior. If you're a parent listening to this right now and your kid is a senior and junior, you probably realize this is pretty late in the process and you probably should have started earlier. Now, the ideal time is a freshman maybe as late as sophomore year, because at this point, as a freshman, you know your kid's pretty good. You know, your kid has has a chance to play college, and he's probably expressed interest in playing at the next level. So you should take some time learning how to go about this recruiting process. Now, don't go all gung ho. You shouldn't be doing all this crazy stuff, but you should at least put some time to learning the process and just moving forward a couple steps so that way you're not playing catch up when you get to here. Because from my experience and from conversations from hundreds of families, I've never had a family tell me, oh, I wish we would have started senior year. I wish we would have started junior year. Families have only told me, I wish we would have started earlier. And so one thing I think would be helpful, if you're a parent.
