A short YouTube video by Trent Luera (former college quarterback) advising recruits and parents about attending college football camps. Luera warns against attending camps expecting to 'impress' coaches who don't already know you, explains that coaches often have pre-established boards and focus on elite outliers, and recommends contacting coaches beforehand to get on their list and receive meaningful evaluation.

If you're going to college camp with this mindset, you're screwed. Because too many recruits or even parents go to camps with the mindset of, oh, we're going to impress the coaches. They don't even know about us yet. I'm a dog, I'm different. And then they go there and they become disappointed with actual results. First, if you're new here, I'm Trent Loire. I'm a former college quarterback. So be sure to drop a follow for content like this daily. But the issue with going to college camps when no coaches know who you are and you're just expecting to come out there and ball out, is most of the time, they're not even paying attention in the first place. They already have a board prior to the camp. They're already paying attention to certain kids, are trying to evaluate certain kids. The whole point of a camp isn't necessarily to discover someone. Like, do they discover kids? Sometimes, yes, you hear the stories all the time. But most of the time, these are top 1% of the 1% outliers that they're looking for. That's why they do things like the fastest man and all the 40 times and stuff like that, to see if, hey, can we find a kid who runs a 44 and he's a stud on the field? Awesome. Are we not? Are we going to find one? Probably not. But if we do, awesome. And so the goal here is you should be getting in touch with the coaches beforehand so that way you can get on their board, get on their list, make sure there's actual feedback.
