Short YouTube monologue by Trenton Luera about his experience being recruited to play college football. He emphasizes that players must proactively promote themselves to college coaches—contradicting the idea that "play well and they'll find you"—and notes high school coaches focus on winning games rather than arranging scholarships.

I got recruited to play college football and I wish somebody would have told me this sooner. The reality is no one's going to do the recruiting for you. No one's going to help you get recruited. No one's going to get you scholarship offers yourself. You have to do it yourself. You have to put yourself out there in front of college coaches because I'm sure you've heard the saying, play well and they'll find you. To be honest, it's just a straight up lie. Think about all the great players that you know that maybe went through your high school or high school in the area that didn't get recruited to the level that you knew. And I'm sure they even knew that they could. They checked every box imaginable but still didn't reach their potential in the recruiting. So what happened ultimately? Just not enough coaches probably knew about them in the first place or they messed up somewhere along the lines in the recruiting process. Because just because you have the talent or even have the film does not mean that's going to translate to getting you to the best school possible. And of course your, your high school coach is going to tell you this because they want you to focus on winning games and that's their job. They don't necessarily get bonuses for getting guys recruited and getting guys to bigger programs, and that's totally fine.
