A short YouTube talk by Trenton Luera advising student-athletes on how to evaluate scholarship offers. The speaker emphasizes two immediate questions any recruit must answer: (1) whether the offer is committable (i.e., can be accepted now), and (2) what the financial aid package covers—particularly important for FCS and lower-division schools where full athletic scholarships are uncommon.

Most families do not realize this until it's too late and it just scares the crap out of me. So now the best feeling in the world is when you get your first offer and when you get multiple offers out of that. Because you've been striving for this the entire time. And maybe you've already got an offer as a junior as a 2026 right now, or maybe you're going to get one in camp season here in a couple months. There are two questions that you have to ask and get answers to as soon as possible. Now the first one is, is this a committable offer? This is becoming a little bit more common knowledge now, which is awesome. But not all scholarship offers or just offers in general are committable. And what I mean by that is that can you take that offer right now? Like does it actually exist? It's why some people call some offers fake and some real because if your offer is uncommittable, then it's not really an offer at all. Now the second thing is you need to figure out what the financial aid package is going to be like. And this is especially relevant for FCS and below schools. Because realistically at FCS or below school you're not going to get a full ride athletic skill.
