Former college quarterback Trenton Luera argues that social media is overrated for college football recruiting and that recruits should prioritize direct outreach and other methods over trying to ‘blow up’ on apps. He identifies one primary platform to focus on (spoken as Twitter in the clip) and describes Instagram/TikTok as secondary bonuses; he also promotes a free spreadsheet of 6,000+ college coaches' emails to help recruits contact programs directly.

This may shock you, but social media isn't everything when it comes to recruiting. I'm going to explain why that is the case and what you should be doing instead so that way you can get a better chance at getting a college football scholarship. If you're new here and don't know who I am, I'm Tren Laura. I'm a former college quarterback. So be sure to follow for more content like this. And also if you want to save hundreds of hours of your time, you can get my free spreadsheet of 6,000 plus college coaches emails. All you have to do is click the link in my bio and get it for free. So in this modern era of recruiting, social media is a big deal. You see a lot of news and a lot of media go out on apps like Instagram, Twitter, all that stuff. But the issue is most recruits think that like they have to be active on all these platforms and it's not true. Really. There's only one platform you should be worried about if you're a recruit and It's Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, all that stuff, like just bonuses. But you're not going to get recruited off of an Instagram video or TikTok, most likely, unless you really, really blow up and you're getting like big time media attention now. And the chances of that are really rare. So my advice to you, if you're trying to get recruited and you're spending all this time on social media apps trying to figure out, oh, what should I post on this?
