Robert Greene's 13th law of power: when asking for help, appeal to the other person's self-interest, not their mercy. In a job interview, tell the employer how you'll increase revenue and free up their time, not why you need the job.

The 13th law in the 48 Laws of Power is, when asking for help, appeal to people's self-interest, never their mercy or gratitude. Now what this means is that when you need help from somebody, you need to ask for it in such a way that shows them how by helping you, it will ultimately benefit them. Here's an example. When you're interviewing for a job, you want to highlight all that you can do for the company. Hey look, here's 3 ways that I can increase revenue for your company. And also I can do this, this, and this, and that's gonna allow you to have more time to do as you please. The point is you want to show them how you can benefit them rather than just pleading for the job because of your own personal needs. Don't say, "Oh, I need the job because I need the money," or because it's your dream job and you've always wanted it. Show how you can benefit them.
