A Mexican seller taught the speaker never to give ground in negotiations without getting something back. When the other side asks for a shorter inspection or larger deposit, he trades it for a lower price or longer closing date. It extracts value and tests how badly they actually want what they're asking for.

One of the best negotiation tips I ever heard was from this old Mexican dude that I bought a house from. He told me that in a negotiation, you should never give something up without asking for something else in return. So for instance, if I'm talking to the seller of a property and they want me to have a shorter inspection period, I'm gonna use that to ask for a lower purchase price. If they want me to put more EMD, I'm gonna use that to get a longer close date. Whatever it is, I'm always gonna ask for something else in return. One thing this will do is cover how important this concession is to the other party. They might realize they don't want to have to give something up and they'll just scrap it anyway.
