The dumbbell row feels useless until you pull toward your hip instead of your chest. Treat your hands like hooks and drive with your elbows. This small fix activates your lats properly and makes the exercise actually work.

This is one of the most common exercises that I see people doing incorrectly in the gym. And I know firsthand because I was doing them wrong for my first few years of working out. I used to hate this exercise because I felt like I could never feel it. And until I made this one simple change, now I love the workout. So with this, you'll see a lot of people, they're kind of driving and just coming to the middle when really you need to be focused on coming towards your hip. So now if we see here in the video is I'm pulling the dumbbell up into my hip. Remember, focusing on hands being hooks. And focus on driving with your elbow and with you bring the dumbbell up to your hip. This is going to engage more of your lat and you're going to feel the workout a lot more. Again, make sure that we're driving up to our hip, not towards the middle of our body. Once you make this change, I guarantee that you'll start to enjoy this workout a lot more.
