Desert over there. Yeah, cuz when I'm over here, I usually yell at him and say, let's go.
Behind the chalk line, you will get one command, and that will be on your mark.
And when everyone stops moving, I'll fire the Let's go, Huskies! Let's go, Sharks!
Do not pay attention to all the funny noisemakers out there. Only worry about the gun. Go, Sharks!
Go, Wolves! Let's go, Arcadia! Let's go, Arcadia! Let's go, Huskies! Get 'em, let's go! Arcadia! Arcadia!
All right, ladies, now it's time to get your mind in gear.
On your marks!
And it looks like Flint Ridge Prep will be the first to finish 5 in our girls D5. And on the other side there, our girls Division 1 race scheduled to begin right at 8:05. And it did just be the second call for boys Division 5. You are now 20 minutes away. Should be a great girls Division 1 featuring Great Oak Lake, number 2 in the country, number 1 in the state 4 times. They were the state last 4 years in a row. Southern Section also, they'll be going for 5 here in this race today. I didn't even hear a gun.
I'm looking right.
Rich Pratt, the first with 5 across the end zone. So if we're a little off, we're a little off in there, man. We're going to be a little off. I had to wait for movement. I never heard one.
Good job, Sam. Good spot. Stay right there, Sam. You got this, girl. Good job, Kasey. Kasey, Kasey, get up there. Shelby, I'm here!
And a great battle is going to start right here from the beginning. First quarter mile, looks like Emma Ariaga— excuse me, Chloe Ariaga and Lauren Pirifoy, the two juniors, second and third fastest ever run on this course last week, and they are taking this race out very quickly here. Certainly going to challenge, uh, our girls here in to this early pace.
Come on, Kayla, good job!
As our girls in this very quick girls division 1 race make their way to the first half round.
Great job, Leslie! Fair 5! Akemi, let's go! 5!
And the freshman from Chino Hills, Jacqueline Doherty, trying to move up there in 5th into that no zone between the top 4 and 5, 6, and 7. Emma Ariaga gets one of 2 of the top 8. Miro Zabaiola running in 6th. Ariaga in 7th.
Emily Virtue running in 8th.
Oh my, Pirafloy and Ariana, like a clash of the titans here. And Gitan and Cortez staying close. These are 4 of the top runners in the country here, outstanding here, and they are pushing the pace early. Pirifoy set the Division I record last week running 16:35. Ariaga not too far behind. Those were the second and third fastest times behind our unbelievable course record set last week. Claudia Lane of Malibu running 15:49.4 is our fastest ever, but these are the second and third fastest. Ariaga in the light blue there, top of Walnut. She has actually won this race twice already. Won it as a freshman, won it as a sophomore. Her and Pirifoy, both juniors here.
Everywhere else.
It's like our first 5, 6 girls here, either juniors or sophomores or freshmen here. Young ladies running very fast, Division 1 girls. Come on, Emily, looking good!
Go, Emily! There you go! ¡Vamos, baby! Good job, baby. You're moving up. Let's go, baby. Good job, baby. Good job.
Ah, now Arriaga back, pushing the pace a little bit. Arriaga makes the turn. And we're at the halfway point at just 18 minutes— or excuse me, 8 minutes. So we are on 16-minute pace, believe it or not. 16-minute pace, which would shatter our course record here. Pirifoy and Arriaga, then Cordova Cortez and Gaetan.
Good job, girls! Good job!
And once they pass the big electronic board, you'll see on that board exactly the places as they go by. That's at about 1.7 into our race, and it is Purefoy in the red, Ariana in the light blue of Walnut.
Cortez trying to get up into that race also.
I mean, Tom just moved it back. That's our top 4. Great Oak 3 of those— 2 of those top 4. And the 40 in the green of Cheeky Hills, Emily Virtue, and the all-red of Burroughs moving on Ramirez. And here comes Emma Ariaga. Great Oak 3 of the top 10. It's a very fast race. Slukov is running in 10th for Great Oak. That's their number 3 girl today. Great Oak, this unbelievable team. One senior in this group of 7 running for Great Oak today, and all 5 of Great Oak's scores in the top 28, and they continue to move up. And at 1.7 miles, Great Oak, but we have Vista Murrieta, both from the Southwestern League, Southwestern League running 1-2 in our CF Southern Section Championship Final. And it looks like as they head to the 2-mile, Pierrefoy trying to open up a little bit, just a gap of a meter or two, and Cortes though getting up in there also, Fatima Cortes of Great Oak moving up very well now. Gaetan, her teammate, running in 4th, looks like DeWorty still running in 5th, Virtue though moving up trying to close that gap.
You got 2 girls right behind you.
Yeah, but just one more.
Oh shoot, I forgot it was wheelchair racing. What did you say? You're so excited. What did you say? She said, come on, man. Yes! Let's go!
And it looks like Fatima Cortes of Great Oak, the junior, has moved up to join the others. And so Fatima Cortes and Arriaga now pulling a little bit away from Purefoy, who's still running in third. Emily Virtue continues to move up, but it is Gaetan of Great Oak in 4th in that great team battle here. So we had at 1.7 miles, we had Great Oak at 66, Vista Mireta 156, Arcadia the Pacific League champion at 178, Redondo running in 4th at 212, King in 5th at 236, Dana Hills 243, El Toro 7th at 249, Mira Costa 8th at 256, Walnut 9th at 272, Yucaipa Tampa Tech at 288 and Chula Hills at 288. So for that final spot there, for that 7th and final spot, we've got 5 teams within 25 points of each other heading for home.
Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go, Daddy Lee!
And it looks like Fatima Cortes continues to pound that pace and has taken that lead now from Greydo, the junior. Once again, Looking at our Division 1 record set last week by Lauren Purifoy at 16:35, and now Cortez has an 8-second lead here with about a half mile to go. Cortez with about an 8-second lead, and it's Chloe Arriaga of Walnut in second, and then Purifoy 4 seconds back, still in third. Gaetan and Virtue continues to move up. Virtue moving up, that's really our top 5, and then a considerable gap. And we've got a group of about 6 girls running right there in that 6 to 12 spot. Fatima Cortes of Bradle continues to expand upon that lead. A great last second half of this course and looks to be on record pace here. Regal, our defending champion, both in the section and the state, very comfortably out front as a team and looks to be on her way to an individual championship. She's just about to make that turn, and when she makes that left turn, just a little bit more than a quarter mile to go, and she continues to go. It is Ariaga in second, Chloe Ariaga, Walnut, and then about a 30-meter gap to Lauren Purifoy of King. All 3 juniors, and it is Cortes that will make the turn in the lead. Right behind you. You have a whole team.
Come on, Michaela! Come on, Michaela!
You have to be top 20 and be top 5 individual. 15:10. Fatima Cortes continues to lead. Ariaga still there back, and it looks like Purefoy closing that gap a bit, and Emily Virtue trying to get up in it right there with Gaetan, and that's the top 5.
Let's go, Chloe! Go! Let's go, Chloe!
Come on, Chloe! And looks like Virtue has moved into 4th. The senior from Burroughs, the only senior in this group of 5 here, running right there with Gaetan. And Gaetan trying to hold her off, but coming home now, 200 meters, less than 200 meters to go. We're at 15:45. Once again, our Division 1 record is 16:35. That was set just last week by Lauren Purfoy. And here she comes around the turn, Fatima Cortes, at 16:15. She is going to shatter the Division I course record and become our Southern Section champion. Fatima Cortes of Bredow, officially 16:27. And our home, Cori Arana, as a junior now, has finished first twice and second in 3 years. No worse than second place, and she'll run a PR here. She's going to be right here in second in a great race at 16:40. Purefoy coming in third from King. Here comes Gaetan of Great Oak. It's Great Oak, 2 of the top 4. And Emily Virtue of Burroughs will finish in 5th. All 5 of those girls Under 17 minutes. That's Anil of El Toro. Here comes Doherty finishing strong. Ramirez of Ayala, Emma Arriaga of Walnut, and Klugoff of Great Oak finishing strong to give Great Oak 3 in the top 10. Oh my, we're still just at 17:20, so under 17:20 to get into the top 10.
And officially, Cortes, a new Division 1 course record, 16:27.1.
Arriaga of Walnut second, 16:43. Urfale King, 16:51. Tori Gaetan of Great Oak fourth at 16:56. Emily Virtue, Burl, 16:58. Messineo of El Toro sixth, 17:10. Jacqueline Gowardy, the freshman from Chino, at 17:10. Ramirez Fajala, 17:13 and eighth. Emma Arriaga ninth at 17:16. And Klugoff of Great Oak great finish to finish in the top 10 at 17:18. And in gray out now with all 5 of its scorers already across the finish line. It looks like the Southwestern League on the way to a 1-2 sweep here. Mr. M with 5 runners across the finish.
Nice job, Sasha!
And as we watch and look for those top 7 teams here, boys Division 5, you should be at the clerk of the course now on that start line. This will be our second call for boys Division 1. Your race a little bit more than 20 minutes away.
Good job, Natalie! Good job, Alexis! Good job, Stephanie! Good job, Natalie! Good job, Kayla! Good job, Julia! Good job, Musa!
And here we go now with our third race today, Boys Division 5. In that great team race here, we're looking at Division 1 girls. Great Oak repeats as our Southern Section champion, certainly maintains their spot as the number one ranked team in the state with 49 points. Vista Mireta, the Southwestern League, does go 1-2. Arcadia, the Pacific League champions, they're in third at 152. Then we have El Toro, 194. King in fifth at 217. Vera Costa moving up very well, moved up 2 spots there over that last mile and a quarter. They get 2:21. We've got Dana Hills right now at 2:45 in that 7th and final spot. Then we have Walnut at 2:59, Redondo 2:85, and Fountain Valley at 3:33. Once again, that is unofficial. The official results will be posted on the big piece of wood there, that board right behind the finish line. That's when it's official, when it's posted there. But right now it looks like Great Oak will be our team winner here, and we'll look to see who gets those final spots here. Once again, we do have
