Top teams, we have 7 teams ranked in the top 50 in the nation on the line here today at the 39th Annual ASICS Globus Invitational. —funners. Here we go with the start of the Championship 8, and it's gone off very quickly. Looks like Jillian Widener taking it off perfectly. She was second in the state in Division 2 last year, running 17:30 in the 200 crazy fast time. Look how quick— this is her first race of the season. Got another girl with the first place in the 3-day just last Wednesday. Claudia Lane, who scored the Lake Superior Schools run 16:32.5K, 10:53, and 16:32 to break Sarah Baxter's record on that course. Meanwhile, looks like Jillian Wagner taking it out here. She's on 2:12, 4:53. Just past the 400-meter mark, and they're gonna head out toward the redwood tree, make a right-hand turn, and it'll be a crazy pack up at the front. Fastest times we've had coming through the mile so far for these girls have been 5:37. I think you'll see that it flips a little bit here in this race. So Penny's at the front end, obviously, and low of Buchanan, Corey Smith, ran a 15:58 in Woodbridge. He was 4th in the state last year, made it low, ran a 15:59 at Woodbridge. Corey Gap, Gap of Great Oak, he was 6th at the Goliath and has been having a tremendous season here. Also probably up in that lead pack should be Haley Herberg of Capo Santa Barbara, 2:33 at 800 meters. So girls are taking it out. Corey Smith, hometown Buchanan, out there in the lead. Lauren Pirpois of King, she's had an outstanding season, crushed the Mount Carmel course earlier this year. Set the junior course record. That's a, another iconic course, just like the famous Woodward Park course here. All right, Jill. All right, Jillian! Jillian, perfect! Relax your shoulders. At the log, we have a huge cat jumping around. Course, we've had 8 girls run under 17 minutes. Top 5 interchangeable right now. Gates of Gray Oak, Lowell, Buchanan, Herberg of Capuchino Valley, Kirkwood of King, and Corey Smith of Buchanan. Two-headed dragon of Buchanan up at the front end of this race. They're screaming toward the mile mark right now where it's 5:15, and you can hear the crowd down near the corner of Hughes as they're leading their way through that area. They'll make a turn up to the lake after they pass the mile. Cooper, the leader, 5:20. Smith right there, 5:21. Hergert right there, 5:22. Jack— Jason Cooper and J.O., 5:24. Lowe, 5:25. Weidner of Redwood 5:26, Guevara 5:28. They're the who's who of cross-country in Southern California right now. In the K show last year, they were 16:55 on the dial over Kyle Prado. Kyle, I think, finished 2:51. ¡Vamos! ¡Dale, Lexi! U of O taking it out right at the early lead by significant amount. Buchanan second, Claremont third, Capistrano fourth, Mission Viejo fifth, Granada sixth, Dana Hills seventh, St. Francis and Sacramento eighth— Crest Academy in 9th, and Centennial of Nevada in 10th, Singham 11th, Steam Valley 12th, Oak Ridge 13th, Homestead 14th, Fort Hill Technology 15th, Arcadia, Utah, Taipa, El Toro, Penrose Valley, and Reno round out the top Morning. Herefore, as they're weaving away past the lake, herefore, Herbert, uh, Capicello Valley, Dayton of Great Oaks, Lowell of Buchanan, and Smith of Buchanan. Usual suspects right up there, just right behind Dylan Widener and Romero appear to still be up in that top. Unofficial team scores: Great Oak with 90, Buchanan with 152, Claremont 167, Cabritown Valley 183, and CTA 203, the top 5. 25 girls in this race, fastest, fastest race through so far today. As they're moving along toward the bottom of Pillar Hill, we'll get a report right now. About 9:55, 10 minutes right now. 16. She ran 4:44.19, and she jumped into that lead pack right now. Mitch with the lead right now. Haley Herbert. Herbert is the Dana Hills champion. She ran 6:05. Woodbridge, she was 8th in the first section last year. She also has run 4:49. About 15 girls in this race at least in the sub-5:00 pace. Now let's remember that section had 30 girls in the first group. We're reaching a lot of Excuse me, at the end of the race. I could see it. I think we're going to have a split type of race here into the last portion. Awesome! Go, go, go! Woo! Better! Go, go, go! Daniel Smith side by side at 11:41. With a mile to go. Her boy, 11:44. Jenner went from 17th to 1st in the middle brown, and his sister, who's now in 5th, went from 27th to 5th. Okay, she went through in 11:54. Again, boys went side by side. 10. Sylvia Cruz, Auburn of Oak Park, right up there, defending state champion, currently in 12th. Olivia O'Keefe, Ramirez 13th, Archie 14th, Vanderburg, and it's Luong of Bray Ochi against 3 in the top 16, and Buchanan with Fox has 3 in the top 17. Jenner and Smith pulled away from the crowd with about a half mile to go— excuse me, with lots of 1,100 meters left of the course. About a 50-meter gap between the top two, Maddie Denner and Corey Smith, to the next pack. Denner from the South Park team section, Smith from from the central section and Turfboy from the southern section. So 3 different sections representing the top 3. 800 to go, we're at about 14:30. Skinner with Smith on his shoulder, should be a great last 100 meters. It means you're about 14:30. Thank you. You're even Anna obviously with great closing speed as the state champion in the 4:44. Smith on her home course. There's about a mile to go. Brito crushing it, and they're in the lead. Buchanan second, Claremont moved up into third, Granada fourth, St. Francis of Sacramento fifth, Mission Viejo sixth, Capistrano Valley seventh, Acadia eighth, Tujunga Valley ninth, San Juan Valley tenth. Did very well over this last 800. Denner Smith, 1:16:40. 1:16:45. 1:16:50. Way to go, Donovan Turner! This is Nathan Denner, 1:16:48. He improves the 7-minute record. 1:16:49. I love you, Lions! Let's go, Cougs! Push it, kids! Push it! Yeehaw! 342, Green Hills 349, Homestead 356, Woodhill Technology 291, Grand Prairie 405, Utah 407, Davis 454, Oak Park 4— Rio 461, California 473, Rio 497.
