How to escape the animal inside of us.

In this 18‑minute teaching, Uzi Moses PhD continues his "Mindset Mastery" series rooted in the Alter Rebbe’s Chabad teachings. He explains how the sadness that arises from spiritual deficiency can be redirected into lasting happiness by elevating the divine spark (the Godly soul) above the animal soul. Using the parable of a king’s son imprisoned and later restored to his palace, he illustrates the process of the Godly soul’s exile and return. He distinguishes repentance (teshuvah) – returning from past misdeeds – from performing good deeds in the present, and links the Exodus narrative to the soul’s liberation from impurity. Moses emphasizes that true happiness comes from aligning thought, speech, and action with the divine, not from external substances or material comparison. He urges continuous learning, positive deeds, and mindful conduct in any profession as a way to “wear the garments” of the Godly soul, thereby freeing it from the animal soul’s dominance and experiencing inner, lasting joy.

Hello everyone. Good to see everyone here again today. So we are going to continue with our Mindset Mastery that is offered to us by the Alter Rebbe, which is the founder of the Chabad movement. Just like unbelievable unbelievable human being who wrote a book that until today is just so relevant and could be applied literally by every person alive on Earth. So we are continuing, we are continuing the class here and we are going to kind of do a little recap about what we spoke about previously. We spoke about the idea that there is a way for us to direct our sadness in a way that brings tremendous happiness afterwards, which is sadness that comes from the spirituality, which means I'm feeling that I'm not connected enough, I'm feeling that I can do better and I'm not, I'm feeling that I'm not fulfilling my spiritual potential. And that sadness comes from the shell, and it comes from the good side of the shell. So we know the shell is like a barrier that separates us from the light of the Creator, and it's caused by all kinds of things. Things that we do that creates that shell. So that shell is not a positive thing, but it has a positive side to it. And when we are sad because of not being spiritual enough, we are sad, that sadness is going to bring us tremendous happiness. So we have to direct our sadness because he's saying that if the sadness comes from the other side, which means not being from the physicality of things, which means not having enough, oh, I should have gotten this, I don't have this, they have that, constantly comparing yourself to people, constantly saying, oh, they accomplish more, they have a better car, they have a better house, they have a better this, they have a better— every time that you try to compare something on the physical level, that brings you to sadness that could, God forbid, turn into depression. And this is something that we have to completely remove before it turns into depression. So he's also given us a warning there that we have to understand that sadness could be a good thing, but it has to be directed in the right direction. And when it does, then it could lead us to tremendous happiness, and this is where we want to be. So we are going to continue here, and then he was also explaining how the, if you guys remember the parable of the son of the king that was captured and was in jail with hard labor and he was like, you know, cleaning, doing all like the worst jobs, cleaning toilets, cleaning like the worst. And then from there he's going back to his king's, to his father's palace, back to the king's, to his father the king's house. And this is a parable for our godly spark. Which is what's happening to our Godly spark when we are doing the work and our Godly spark is being revealed and it's coming back to us. And that is what brings tremendous happiness, tremendous. There is nothing more joyful than imagine a son of a king who was in jail for so long with hard labor cleaning toilets, now he's back in his father's palace. And there's so much happiness and so much joy in this. And it's a parable to our Godly soul, to our Godly spark, that when we are directing our sadness and we are doing the work on ourselves, which is thinking positively, doing positive deeds, and connecting to spirituality, then this is what's happening. It's coming back to us. And he was talking about also The idea of repentance and good deeds, which are one thing, but they are different. So, the repentance is, we are repenting on the past deeds that we did, and the good deeds, we are doing it now, to get connected now, to make sure our Godly spark is with us now, and is dominant in our life, and it's leading us to the life that we wanna have. To accomplish everything that we want, pretty much. And also, there was a quick description of the idea that the story of coming out of Egypt, that it's described in the Torah, it's actually the story of our soul, that our soul, you know, ran out of Egypt. It's like, it's ran out of the, of the impurity of Egypt, ran out of being from slavery to freedom. And it's also saying that in spirituality, the Godly soul is running away from evil, and it's also going to be the same time, it's going to be when the redemption will come. Our physical body will also be able to run. But when he says that eventually, you know, if everybody is going to have that consciousness and we elevate the consciousness and we elevate the world, what's going to happen? The spirit of impurity, the other side, the ego, the animal soul will eventually be gone, will be disappeared from the face of the earth. And when it disappears from the face of the earth, then You don't have to run from everything because it's, you don't have to run for it because it's already gone. So you don't have to run from it. It's done. But he's saying that, you know, when we actually left Egypt, we were running away from Egypt. And this is also should be our spiritual work, running away from the impurity, from the you know, ego from the animal side and letting and making room for godliness to enter and to dominate everything we do, our thoughts, our speech, our actions, and everything we do by obviously doing good deeds and connecting to spirituality and almost like training ourselves. To constantly, constantly get out of this exile and bring back our Godly soul from exile. So today we are continuing that he's saying that, you know, when we are engaged in doing good deeds and learning, and we're doing it from the depth of the heart, Also, the happiness of the soul is coming together with the repentance, which means it's coming back. Repentance in Hebrew, it means teshuvah, it means to come back. And it's coming back with an additional light and additional happiness. And we always have to contemplate, and we have to ask to like, you know, sit down with ourselves and meditate and focus and see exactly, you know, what is going on. You know, how can we comfort our heart from our sadness, from our, you know, suffering in this world? Because that we feel, you know, when somebody is like really doing the work, he feels that he's spiritually not there, you know, and that kind of brings somebody, could bring somebody to sadness. But he's saying, he said, talk to God, tell him this, tell him, listen, I'm far from you, I'm just a human being, but I did not create myself, and this is a very important mind-blowing point if you really get it. You talk to your Creator and you tell Him, I did not create myself, which means You created me, which means if I'm succeeding, Hashem succeeds. And if I'm not succeeding, the Creator doesn't succeed. When I say Hashem, I mean the Creator, the Name. So, the fact that the Godly soul can come to a situation where it's in exile and it's inside of a body and it's inside of the animal soul that pulls it down to a very lower place and circumstances, we have to say, I did not create the situation. That's what should have happened. The Creator enclosed the Godly Soul in the body and the animal soul. That unfortunately, that brings at times, that brings the animal soul, I mean the Godly Soul, to a very, very lower place. I mean, you know, you take the son of the king, and I'm using that parable because it's really cool. You take the son of the king and you put him in a jail with, you know, from a palace, from all the riches of the world, and now you put him inside of a jail with hard labor cleaning toilets, you know? I mean, from there. So how can that be? How can a godly soul come from such an elevated place? To go down to such a lower place. And what would, what would, what would the Creator even do such a thing? You know, what would He, you know, to take a part of Himself and bring it that low? So, we need to understand that the Godly Soul It's, you know, I mean, compared to the Creator, compared to the Creator, that the Creator is everything and all around and inside and outside and all around everything, which means all the worlds, it really doesn't count compared to Him. And, and he keeps on going here and saying that even though it's down there, it's what the Creator did. The Creator did it. The Creator did it. Because compared to the Creator, everything, everything is nothing. And so we're asking, so we're asking why? Why would the Creator do that? Why would the Creator, you know, take a part of himself, the most elevated part, or if you go back to the parallel, take a son of a king and put him in jail to clean toilets and to do hard labor. Why would he do that to begin with? You know, why would a king does that to his son? You know, and this is the question that we are asking here. Because, and the answer is amazing. That everybody eventually will, from that lower place, will do the necessary work to go back up there. By including, you know, the clothing of the soul is our thought, speech, and actions. So, when we are thinking positively, speaking positively, and doing positive things, good deeds, then by doing that, the Godly Soul elevates itself and it's coming back And it goes above the animal soul and above the thoughts of the animal soul, above the speech of the animal soul and above the actions of the animal soul. And this elevation should be something that we are going to do throughout our lifetime in this world, that we have to wear the clothing, the thoughts, speech, and action of the Godly Soul. And that is, that could be done again through learning, through learning spirituality, And there is so much to learn, so much to learn. The more you start to learn, the more you realize how much you don't know. And you will develop this thirst to knowledge. You want to know more and more and more. And the more you learn about spirituality, the more your mindset, it's getting almost glued to the mindset of creation, of the creator. And that's what the Creator wants. He wants us to become one with it through our mind, through our thoughts, through our speech, and through our actions. And through doing that, the Godly Soul, our Godly sparks, comes back to its source, comes back to Godliness, and it's starting to really lead us into that, you know, flawless universe, you can call it. Because when you are connected truly to your Godly soul, you are entering that realm, and that realm is flawless. Everything gets synchronized. You are starting to really live a miraculous life. You're seeing miracles every single day. And this is what we said, that when we are broken and we understand that we are not there, we are not there, we are not connected, we have to make sure and make ourselves happy. Because happiness, it's not just going to come to us. Happiness is something we have to choose. And we have to choose it, and we have to make, you know, work on ourselves. Happiness is part of the work, it's part of the spiritual work that we need to do. And we can make ourselves happy when we are connecting to this information, when we are connecting to, when we are, you know, connecting our mind, our thoughts, speech, and action. To our Creator. And that definitely brings us to be fully happiness. And happiness is not about laughing and, you know, you can drink a bottle of vodka and laugh like crazy, doesn't mean you're happy. It could be running away from like real life, from reality, you know. Drugs doesn't make you happy. Alcohol doesn't make you happy. Any type of substances that are, you know, coming to you, it doesn't really truly make you happy. It might help you get happy. I mean, if you drink wine, it could warm up your heart. But if you, you know, if you're not going to do that with the right intention, it will have a terrible hangover afterwards, you know. And this is the bottom line, and I'm going to end on this note today. Let me see how many minutes are we here today. We're 18 minutes, so we're not going to do it too long today. So I'm going to end on this note, that through elevating our Godly soul, and higher than our animal soul. The more we elevate it over our Godly soul, the more happiness we receive and we are experiencing. And we should run away from anything that's evil, anything that's bad, anything that it's, that does not really belong to us, that it's part of the animal soul. Should run away from that and really free our Godly soul from the exile of the body and on the animal soul, because when the animal soul is in control, then the Godly soul is in exile. And this is what we want to free our Godly Soul from, from the dominion, from the dominant of the animal Soul, and to run away from that. And through that, through the contemplation of understanding how You know, how low sometimes we can get, but again, doing it because we want to elevate ourselves and bring back our Godly soul to dominate through learning and engaging in good positive deeds. Whatever it is, everybody could do it in their own way. You know, the world is built in a way that not everybody has to do the same thing. So, you know, if you're a bus driver, you know, you could still have a part in godliness and you could still drive the bus in a way that it's just making the world better, you know, by maybe smiling to the people that are coming into your bus and so on and so forth, you know. It doesn't matter what your profession is. You could insert Godliness and you can wear the garments of your Godly Soul, which is your thought, speech, and action that are overcoming the animal soul. And when you do that, that thing will add so much more happiness into your life. And this is what we want to do, and this is where we want to be. We want to engage in happiness. We want to be truly happy from within, from the depth of the heart, not because of alcohol, not because of drugs, not because of anything, because of having a true connection to the Creator of the world.
