How to overcome any addiction.

Uzi Moses PhD describes his battles with cigarettes, food, and sugar, then outlines a framework for breaking any addiction. He argues addictions stem from life's hardship and sensory pleasure hijacking your higher purpose. The solution: set firm boundaries, eliminate exposure, and replace external pleasures with internal ones like learning, exercise, and creative work.

Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of how to be the best influencer and really bring into fruition all the powers that your soul has and overcoming everything that stands in your way. In this episode, I would like to speak about addictions because it's something that was very close to me. I was fighting with all kinds of different addictions, from cigarettes to food to sugar to different addictions. I don't want to get into too many details about the addictions that I overcome in my life, but there has been many. And today, thank God, I Thanks to a lot of learning and a lot of, I would say, being in the moment trying to really get the best out of myself, I was able to overcome most of my addictions. And there is an amazing and profound way to do it. And it's easy. I think everybody could implement it. And I think that if you listen to this video or podcast really closely, there is literally no addiction that you won't be able to overcome. So first, we want to talk about— I want to talk about a few things. I made myself a few notes here about addictions. So first of all, why are we getting addicted? What's the reason people get addicted? So some say, you know, people get addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, weed, other drugs. You know, some people get addicted to porn, some people get addicted to you know, food. And there is many, many different addictions that people have. But let's just make it clear, you know, addiction, it's something that you know you're not supposed to do. It's something that is hurting you, but you're still doing it. It's like you have no ability to control it. It's like you are being a slave to something. There is something out there that it's literally pulling you and controlling you. Okay, and let's just say every addiction starts with like, I want to experiment, I want to see how it goes, you know, let's kind of feel it out, smoke a little here, smoke a little there, and then you fall. Or have a little cake, or have a little this, or have a little that. A little shot of tequila, you know, only on the weekend, and then you do it on a Sunday, on a Monday, on a Tuesday, and before you know it, you can't get rid of it. So let's really get to the bottom of why we do it. Why are we getting addicted? What's the deal here? So the deal is this. There is really two main reasons why we get addicted. And I want to just say a few words before I'm going to get into the main subject here and really give you guys the solution to overcome every addiction possible is I want to give a credit to my dear friend, Dr. Achia Lahari, which made a whole series about addictions in Hebrew, which I had the merit to learn with him and to listen to most of the lectures and to look at the at the sources that he was offering there from the Rabbi Rashab and the Tanya and many other Jewish sources. And, he kind of came up with that idea with this concept and he broke it down in a few videos that just literally went viral. So, definitely want to give my friend this credit. And, second thing is that If you like the channel, if you like the videos, please subscribe, share, and like, so I will be encouraged to continue and making those videos. So, and this podcast. So we'll continue right now. So two main reasons why people get addicted. So the first reason is life is hard. Life is just hard. Sometimes you, you know, you work too hard. There is a lot of different influences on you. People are making you upset, whether it is your job, whether it is your spouse, your children, there's always something going on. Life is not easy, life is hard. So we just want to kind of kick the bucket, kick it, lay back and chill, smoke a joint, And, you know, somebody else, you know, smoke cigarettes or smoke other things. Some people just drink alcohol just to forget, just because life is hard. But that's not the main reason. The main, the second reason is because we get pleasure out of it, out of the addictions. So our body somehow gets pleasure from smoking, from eating, from, you you know, getting high from drinking alcohol. So we get some kind of a pleasure from it. But we have to understand something about the pleasure. And this is one of the main reasons here that we need to talk about because how do we perceive the pleasures? We perceive the pleasure with our 5 senses, which means You know, we have 5 senses: seeing, hearing, smelling, what else, feeling with our hands, and taste, obviously. So, so let's just say things that we are, you know, we get addicted with eyes. You know, a lot of people have porn addictions. You know, I know a good, a good Jew, his name is Eli Nash, that has also a podcast, really great guy. I love listening to him. He talks a lot about how he had like a major addiction to pornography, and he was able to somehow get over this addiction, and now he speaks about it, and he really, you know, trying to help other people not to fall into this trap. I know about myself, I was addicted to cigarettes for years, I was smoking on and off trying to quit maybe, I don't know, 150 times if not more, until I just, you know, eventually, thank God, I was able to get rid of this addiction. But again, you know, the pleasure that we are talking about that we have with our 5 senses, you know, it really is the pleasure of the body. And if you guys remember, we spoke about the idea that we have a Godly soul and we have an animal soul. So when we, when we, uh, when we addicted to something, then we, then it's pretty much our, uh, animal soul that it's taking over us, our animal soul. So how is the animal soul is doing it? So our 5 senses, it's what 5 senses. So we have our Senses. Our senses are— our 5 senses are a form of a receptor. They're like a receptor of a pleasure that we receive. And then we have our emotions. Okay? And so there is the internal power of our Soul. The internal power over our Soul is our brain. Is our mind and our emotions, our positive emotions. And the external, it's our senses, it's our receptors that receive, so to say, the fake pleasure. Because I mean, after a while, if you see somebody who is addicted to, you know, some major drugs, you see that like literally the body get deteriorated They lose their teeth, they lose their mouth. It's terrible, the level of deterioration the human body can go through because of addiction. And people just continue because you just can't stop. So they're like literally being a slave into the addiction. And this is what's happening. And this is why it's very important for us to understand all this concept because we want to be in control of our life. And that's the whole idea here. We don't want to be controlled by our receptors, by our senses. Our senses are considered to be, according to, you know, all the sources that my friend Yechiel pointed out, they are the weakest part of us, which means they do not represent really our essence. They just represent a receptor of a pleasure that that's trying to satisfy an immediate urge that we have. And we just, you know, we just, oh, it's just a little bit here, a little bit there, and then we fall into the trap. It's trying to trap us. And again, you have to understand that it's all part of the animal soul. There is an enemy inside of us that is really trying to distract us, is trying to keep us in a place where we don't do, we don't create, we don't fulfill our potential in this world. And it makes us think that, no, it's okay. I mean, it's okay to smoke. I can smoke a joint right now. You know, it's nighttime. I worked all day. I can just kick it, smoke a joint. But, you know, sometimes for people who are creative, I'm not saying that it's good. I'm not, you know, I think that everybody should do whatever they feel like doing. I mean, it's not about telling people what to do, but it's about really being in control over your life rather than having some substance or a habit or an addiction control you. And that's the whole point of this, because we really don't want to be controlled. We want to be in control of our life. So through the senses, we need to really understand the idea of the receptors that we have and our senses. Our senses and the receptors And through the senses, we reveal the pleasure that we get from the addiction. You know, with our eyes, you know, somebody who's struggling with looking at beautiful things or things that he shouldn't be looking at, or somebody who is smoking, you know, the flavor or the taste or that feeling, you know, it's like a pacifier for a kid. Or even if it's a substance addiction, you know, like alcohol or any other drug, that people don't, you know, people just lose control. They just lose control. So what do we do? How do we win? What do we need to do in order for us to be in control of our life and not let our senses, our receptors, the lower part of who we are, you know, turn us into literally a slave for something, a slave for substance, which means doing something we know it's hurtful for us, we're still doing it because we have lost the control or we lost the, you know, the ability to overcome this force that is like taking care of us. We are like a slave to the pleasure, to the external pleasure. So So one thing that it's really, really important to understand, that if we're going to try to get over an addiction that provides us pleasure, we have to replace this pleasure. We have to replace the pleasure. Instead of having a physical pleasure, which means a pleasure of the externality of us, which is the receptors and the senses, which the main reason why we have the receptors and the senses is to create a connection, is to connect us, to connect our souls into the world, into the reality. Okay, so there is a correct revelation of the senses. There is a correct manifestation of the senses, and then there is the destructive manifestation of the senses. The correct manifestation of the senses is that we use our senses to actually connect and do things, you know, that actually are good for us and for the world, rather than being controlled by some kind of, you know, a feeling or an urge or a receptor that is taking over us. So, so we need to really understand that we have to put a barrier. We have to say— we have to learn how to say no to the pleasure. And we have to understand that, that we have to limit and direct our senses. Our senses are, like I said, like they're receptors. They're out of control. If we don't limit them and if we don't direct them and guide them, they're just gonna, you know, they can lead somebody into like literally a terrible situation. You know, like for example, you can see people who are addicted to food, you know what happens, what happens, you know, you eat, you eat, you eat, you eat, you eat, and then it becomes a disaster. Health problems, mobility problems, tons, tons, tons of issues. Okay? Because of simple addiction to— because of not being able to control the receptors, the senses of like the flavor, of the taste, of the ability to understand, for example, that most eating is emotional eating. You know, it's trying to you know, to make us, uh, feel, you know, important or, or compensate on something. But, um, we really have to understand that we, the receptors, our senses, what, what actually leads us to the addiction, to the addiction, they don't have a brain. They don't have common sense, which means that if somebody's addicted to alcohol, he doesn't think, oh, you know, let me think about it, you know, I'm gonna be drinking all this, you know, half a bottle of scotch, and then I have to meet, you know, people or my kids or maybe, you know, whoever it is without embarrassing myself, you know. Some people just don't have that ability to do that, you know. Sorry about that. My phone just went crazy. I don't know how, but I'm going to fix it right now. So this is what I'm saying. The idea is that, again, it's really about either we are in control of our lives or We are being controlled by our senses, by our receptors, which again, it's something that it's part of our lower expression of being, not our higher self. Our higher self is us that we really don't need anything. You know, we don't really need anything. We just, you know, you have air to breathe, your heart is beating, You have your meal, you're not starving, you had your water, you just really don't need much. You know, all of this externality, external things are some kind of an illusion, some kind of like falling into the trap of like I'm getting something out of it that it's more than, you know, that what I can get without it. So for example, what I mean like replacing a pleasure in a pleasure. For example, if somebody gets a pleasure from you know, drinking alcohol. And if you can replace that pleasure instead of sitting, you know, at a bar and drinking alcohol until he faints and then go home and then the next day will not be a good day and you know how it is. How about a pleasure from learning? Pleasure from like understanding a new thing or learning a new skill or achieving something or creating, you know, a meaningful relationship. Or getting ahead, you know, in life with whatever it is that you're doing. You know, like learning is a big one. Learning has a lot of pleasure that people could, you know, get from learning. Learning is one of the most amazing things, especially when there is, you know, complex issues and you are— you get it and you get it and the pleasure you can get from that, it's unbelievable. But that's a positive internal pleasure. It's not external. So, we have to understand the difference between internal and external because addictions come from the externality of our being. Something that it has to do, again, with our senses and our senses, our, and receptors and our emotions that are not balanced or emotions that are just negative emotions. You know, again, You know, we give ourselves, you know, whatever discount, we're saying, oh, we are like this, we're like that, you know. And most things starts with just a drink here or just a cigarette here or just a joint here. And then before you know it, you are, you know, you are locked up in this whole thing of being controlled by substance or by something that it's really not part of really who you truly are. Who we truly are. And it's actually very destructive. You know, when somebody is addicted to smoking and he just cannot stop and smoking, smoking, smoking, after every, you know, after a few years, you can't breathe. You can't breathe at night. You know, it's a terrible thing what it does to our, you know, to the whole breathing plumbing that we have, our nose, our our throat, our lungs, God forbid. And same thing with food, food, pornography, whatever it is that we do, that we do with our externalities. So there is a pleasure that it's a pleasure that actually bring us tremendous benefit, tremendous benefit. Like for example, learning, or for example, working out. You know, a lot of people are addicted to workout. Or if they're running, you know, after a while you get addicted to it because it's just, it's a great feeling, a great feeling when you do cardio and you get used to doing cardio and you do cardio every single day, you get addicted to it. But that's a good, that's a positive addiction. Why? Because it literally brings you, brings the best of who you are out. You know, it's not an addiction that, you know, turns you into a couch potato. Or somebody who cannot really fulfill his potential in the world. And that's the reason why the animal soul is really working extra hard to make people fall into the trap of the externality of the receptors of the senses. And we want to really understand that, that kind of pleasure that we get from the addiction, it's called like, it's a chaotic pleasure, you would say. It's a chaotic pleasure because it leads you slowly down into a chaotic life. Like, it's not going to do any good, it's eventually going to create tons of chaos. And we want to connect to a pleasure that brings the internal forces in us out. So again, we very have to understand the difference between the externality and the internal. And we have to look, you know, We have to look and we have to take the pleasure out of the addiction. And it all starts with the senses. It all starts with the senses. So, so we have to, again, we have to create a limitation. We have to know Like, if I'm gonna have a drink, I'm gonna have one drink. If I'm gonna, you know, if I quit smoking, there is not going to be any more cigarettes or any nicotine. I'm not going to be around nicotine. I'm not going to even try, because once I do that, you know, my brain kind of goes back backwards and I'm back into the addiction, you know. So we have to create the borderline. Borderline. This is it. It's like you can't cross that. And we have to redirect our senses and our receptors. And when we are able to do that, to redirect our senses and to put a border, that's it. That's it. Enough. And find pleasure in other things. Find pleasure in learning. Find pleasure in working out. Find pleasure in, you know, making healthy foods or learning about how to eat healthy or how to connect to your higher self or, you know, take a course in something that really interests you. You know, there is so many things that we could do to to give us pleasure that it's not the fake chaotic one. It's a pleasure, it's a real true pleasure. It's an internal pleasure. It's a pleasure of the godly soul because we know it does good with us and it pushes us forward in life. It doesn't take us backwards. And we have to really, really understand that this is a war going on. But with addiction, it's really about understanding that what caused the addiction, it's the senses, the receptors that are out of control. And all we have to do is just put a barrier, put a line, and direct the receptors. Not let the receptors control us. Not let the receptors turn us into a slave of a substance or a slave of some kind of a behavior that it's a maladaptive behavior that could lead us to ruin, to chaos. So when we do that, We are for sure, we are for sure able to manage our senses and our receptors in a right way. Once we understand what they are, that they are just an external part of who we are, the lower part of who we are, and the higher part, our higher self is way above all of that. Our higher self is something that just wants to go, you know, and fulfill the reason and the mission why it's here in the world. We are here, we created to do something great. Each and every human being in the world can only do the mission that they were sent here to do. And we could not let our receptors or our senses, you know, distract us or take us away from that mission. That we are here to do. Because time is our greatest asset, and we do not want to waste it, you know, chasing shadows, chasing some kind of uncontrolled senses or uncontrolled emotions that are turning us into literally a slave to them. But be the master of your emotions, the master of your receptors, and take control of your life, manage it correctly, and, and then you are for sure can achieve a great, great, great progress. But again, you have to understand that, you know, it has to be done gradually. You have to really want to do it, and if you do want to do it, there's nothing that can stop you, and you can really overcome every addiction in the book that is stopping you from being the absolute best of who you can be and who you are, because you are already a perfect human being and you can just bring that more into reality. Thank you for watching, and I hope to see you at the next video.
