Jaden Kim teaches how to play melodies you hear in your head by training your ear with the A major scale. Sing the scale-degree numbers while playing, then sing them without the guitar to connect what you hear to what your fingers do.

Ever had something on the tip of your musical tongue that you just couldn't quite get on your instrument? Try this. This is an exercise that's going to help you build your association with what I like to call the tonal numbers. So to start, we'll just take our A major scale. I'm on the fifth fret of my low E string. We're going to start with the first five notes. Step one, play around with those. Not step two. Super important. Sing the numbers of the notes and play them at the same time. So something like this.
1, 2, 3, 5, 4, 3, 2, 4, 3. 1, 2, 3, 1.
Great. Step three, do it without the guitar.
Five, three. 1, 2, 4, 3, 4, 3. 1, two, five, one.
After that, you should be a lot closer to getting the melodies in your head out onto the instrument. Good luck.
