Learn to play Jakob Ogawa's "Let It Pass" on guitar. The tutorial covers opening chords like Emaj7 and Amaj7, a tricky C♯ diminished shape, and the chorus progression Fm9, B13, Emaj7. The instructor breaks down each section with picking patterns and offers easier voicing options.
Yo. Hope you guys are doing well. Today we're going to be taking a look at Jacob Ogawa's Let It Pass. This is a really beautiful song and not too difficult to play. I'll go through it once to show you guys how it sounds and then I'll show you guys.
Picking up the phone phone too late Thought I'd be at home by 8 wish I could recall all the things I told you thank God it pass.
Away.
So in love with yesterday.
Then it just kind of repeats. All right, the first chord we're going to need is an E major 7 chord on the 7th fret sounds like this. And here's the picking pattern really slowly. And now we're going to go to an A major 7 chord on the same fret which is going to sound like this. Here's a picking pattern for this one little tip. The second note that you're going to pick on both of these starts on the same string, which is the second string. So after you hit either root, you're going to come back to the second string. And then you're going to turn this A major 7 to an A minor chord which is going to sound look like this and sound like this. So this one, it pretty much just keeps going from the higher strings to the lower, Except for that last note. Now we're going to come over here to a A flat or a g sharp minor 7 chord. Looks like this. Sounds like this. And we're going to play the plucking like this. One more time. And now this next part is the trickiest. We're going to be doing a C sharp diminished chord, but we're going to have to do a little bit of movement with our ring finger. So it'll sound like this. So it's going to start with your ring finger on this fret here. Take it off, go down to the next string, put it back on, Take it off. This one's going to take some practice, but you can get it one more time just for good measure. Alright. And now for the chorus. The chords are just going to be a 2, 5, 16 in E. So what that means is that your first chord is going to be F minor 9. Pretty standard chord there, followed by a B 13 that looks like this, followed by that first chord that we did, the E major 7 again, followed by that diminished chord that we played earlier. And you can have that, that ring finger on like we had earlier. But it's not absolutely necessary. It sounds okay either way. Another way that you can play this is by Playing your C sharp down here on the. On the sixth chord string and it's going to be a C sharp 7 with a flat 13 or a sharp 5, however you want to think about it. So that's going to sound just in isolation. This way is definitely a lot easier with the one on the sixth string. So this part is a little bit unclear in the recording. So a couple of ways that I like to play it are either with this rhythm, Then it repeats and this time I'm going to do some finger picking which you can just kind of play around with. Improvise a little bit, see if you can make your own. Because that's one of the best parts about playing music. You get to put your own little spin on it. So I'll be doing patterns that were pretty similar to some of the ones we were doing earlier. Like. Okay, and the last section is this little outro section that they have. And fortunately you already have all the work done because it's just going to repeat between those two chords that we started with the E major 7 and the A major 7. And you're just going to be doing the same picking patterns that we did earlier. And then that repeats twice and it just lands on the I chord. Alright, thank you guys so much for watching. That's pretty much it. If anything was unclear or you have any questions, please do not hesitate to leave me a comment down below. I will respond to all of them. You could also leave a comment requesting another song. There's a lot of great songs, especially with Jacob Ogawa, that they're not tutorials on YouTube. I would be happy to learn them for you guys so I can teach you. Alright, have a great day. Bye.
