Piano improv- looking to interview guitarists that improvise/compose

A pianist improvises live while discussing a new project to interview guitarists who compose or improvise. The host studied jazz trombone, picked up guitar in college, and has acquired free pianos online. They're looking for guitarists interested in a 30-minute interview on Instagram and recommend the Improvise for Real course.

I'm kind of just ripping. Hi, Aspen. This is fun. I've never had this many people on a live before. Oh, yeah, I do that sometimes too. You know, I usually don't do soft piano stuff to play guitar. Maybe I consider it. All right, let's think of something a little darker. Sa.
Huh?

I'm happy to see that you sing. Oh, yeah, that's one of my favorite songs. Best part. It's. It's a really great song to learn. It's only four chords and so many people know it. Like, I've pulled that song out at like parties, gatherings, like the campfire so many times, man. I've even had like, you know, random people join in. It is an amazing feeling. I mean, I guess I could just keep going. I'm having fun. It's good to just get me practicing a little bit. How am I feeling? How am I feeling? How am I feeling? Ooh, you know what? I think I got cooking. Can you play Steve Lacey on the piano, please? I think I know a Steve Lacey song I can play on the piano. Let me see if I can figure it out. It goes sa.
Sat my daughter inside.

Steve lays the see the goat the goat yo, what's good, o'? Neal? We just playing some songs I just played inside, dude, I feel. You know what's funny, guys? Confession of a Steve Lacy, like, tutorial maker. Dude. I, like, don't even have most of the songs memorized. I have, like, a couple of them. I usually just learn them and then, like, immediately make the tutorial for you guys and then forget them. So I'm sure that some of you guys could probably play more Steve Lacy songs than me. Funnily enough, I gotta watch the tutorial. I think. I think I'm just gonna vibe on something. I think I'm just gonna. I think I'm just gonna vibe on something. Oh, wait, You guys. You guys know what I'm talking about. This is. This. Is that the Amandla's interlude.
Sam. I don't really remember how it ends after.
Hey, cd. Yeah, like, dude, I wish I. Maybe it's time for me to brush up on it because, like, I can't even play. Hey, TD right now. Coming down. Away. Coming down. Coming down. Gosh, I can't remember how it sounds. This is. This is frustrating me. That's funny, dude. Should I just. I'm trying to think if I know any songs. Oh, maybe it's not. Maybe I could do this one.
I heard there was a secret ch. Well, it goes like this. The fourth, the fifth. Holy. Broke his throne and she cut your hair and from your lips she drew.
The hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah.
Sa. You. Sa. Yo, were you able to get the interview with my friend Alex? Slash bubble cheeks. I don't know. It sounds kind of familiar, but if not, I would love to. Yeah, if there's, you know, as it says on the live, I'm looking to talk with a few of you one on one, like, for a quick, like, 30 minutes sometime during the week. Guitarist and improvisation improvisers. Guitarist. I improvise and compose. Just hit me up on Instagram. It's not necessarily. It's not for school. I'm not in school anymore. It's actually for my own music education project. So I'm just trying to figure out, you know, what people's struggles are, what their goals are, you know, what they hope to be able to do with music. And so, yeah, if you feel like you know somebody or you yourself could share your experience, that would be very helpful for me. Oh, gosh. What do I play? What do I play? Yo, Frank Ocean. I think I know a Frank Ocean song. Just need to think about what key that's in.
I mean, this key kind of good from here.
We can take it.
I'll be the boyfriend in your wet dreams tonight. Well, little virgin, where's the wine? You cut your hair but you used to live a part which I was there Wish we caught up on the same.
You know, you never really need to buy a piano. Actually. Everybody's always giving away pianos for free. If you just rent a U haul and you have space, it was free. You just go on offer up. People are always trying to give away their pianos. You just need to rent a U haul and get some strong people to move it. But I've never paid for a piano and I've had, I mean, two. It's not like a whole lot, but I didn't pay for either of them. There's plenty of them on offer up. Facebook, Marketplace. I did just get it tuned though, so it's been sounding better than when we got. Yeah, yeah. It's like a real. It's like a real piano. I'm not gonna really keep that. After long school, my major in school, I. I went to school for jazz. Actually. My. My original instrument was trombone. Yeah. Actually, I picked up guitar while I was in college, so I haven't actually been playing for that long. About four or five years. It's pretty chill. I mean, I still play my horn sometimes. You know, it was great to be surrounded by musicians, but, you know, I'm happy to be out of school. Maybe we'll go. Let's just go simple. Let's just go simple. Damn. Is it like a piano thing.
Sam?
Damn.
Yeah.
Sounds pretty boring. Now I work at a restaurant and I've been trying to just like get my. My music education business, you know, be. Be more main. My main thing. I also worked at a summer camp for a while, But yeah, I just living. Been living away from my folks and stuff like that in la. SA.
Sam.
School's been chill. I think this is going to be the last month that I keep it actually, just because I'm kind of transitioning into something new. I'm still gonna, you know, be working with people, but, I mean, the school is cool for kind of like attracting people to it. But yeah, the community wasn't so, like, engaged. And that was definitely partly my fault, but I'm just kind of going in a slightly different direction. I went to school in Miami.
But.
I went to high school in Cali.
Indeed.
I was happy to get away from my, you know, my voice, my environment, though. Yeah, it sounds like a pretty solid plan. Definitely. Definitely a big change. Okay, it's been 48 minutes. All right, I'm just gonna go. I'll just go for 12 more minutes. Call it a. Call it an even hour, huh? What an I feeling. What am I feeling? You know What? Maybe last 12 minutes, I'll play some guitar. Maybe that's what I'm feeling. Hers. I've heard of them before, but I don't. I'm not. I don't know any of their songs. King Cruel. Heard of King Cruel? I think I've heard some of the songs like Baby Blue, but I don't know them. I'm just. I'm just kind of riffing again. Yeah, it's just on my head. All right. I guess. Inclined. Yeah, I guess I would say. I guess mean. I started just kind of, like, with band in fifth grade on flute. You know, I was interested in it, but I wasn't like, a, you know, a flute freak in nature. I didn't take any, like, childhood lessons and just kind of like, followed my passion. And then I started playing trombone in seventh grade. And then I think, like, once I got into high school is when I got more interest into music, you know, just practicing and especially getting into jazz. But, I mean, like, I wasn't, you know, I really wasn't crazy at it. Like, there were a lot of other kids that were, you know, you know, just as good or better than me. And, you know, I don't feel like I, like, learned super fast, but I just. I did keep it consistent. And then, yeah, during high school, I put enough hours to, like, get into college and get a scholarship for playing jazz trombone. And then in college is when I think I really started developing my improv skills. That's. That's mainly what I practice. If it makes me feel any better, I don't really work on songs, like, as much as I probably just work on, you know, getting ideas, composing and. Yeah, I did pick up guitar fairly fast, though. But I was, like, so obsessed. Like, when I tell you, like, I took it everywhere, man. I would go to house parties and bring my guitar and just play. I would always go by the lake. I didn't even carry a backpack to my classes. I just used my guitar case and, like, put the few little notebooks I needed in there.
Sam.
Yeah, I mean, songs. Songs is great. If you see yourself, like, doing this music thing for. For longer term, I would really recommend getting into, like, improvising and composing because. Welcome back. Because, yeah, improvising and composing is, like, where you really get to interact with music on a more personal level. You get to develop your own relationship with the sounds. It's fun to play songs that you know, but it's really important to improvise. Any channels would you recommend or resources? I have a couple of videos on my channel. I will would really. My highest recommendation would go to improvise for real. They have a YouTube channel. The book courses. I took their course. It was amazing. Improvise for real. And then also like as like I mentioned earlier, I'm doing my music education pro like project. So I'm planning on teaching people how to improvise and compose. I mean, I already do, but I'm planning on just, you know, doing that in a more structured way. That's why I'm doing the interviews. Sa.
Sam.
All right. That hour flew by. I think it's about time to call it. Thank you guys so much for being here with me. It was fun.
