Jaden Kim breaks down Steve Lacy's "Hate Seed" on guitar, starting with a C major open chord and sliding pinky technique, then moving through a four-chord progression: C, D7, Gmaj7, Am11. He covers two ending variations and repeats the structure so you can follow along.

Hola, my beautiful people. I got Hate Seed by Steve Lacy for you today. Let's get right into it. I'll show the first part now, and then the other part later. Starts like this. Cool. And then it'll do that four times. Okay, we're gonna just start with our regular old C major bar chord. We're not gonna strum this high E string. And you're gonna start without your. Your index finger on. So it's gonna be like this. And then the first little move, you're gonna go. You're gonna put. That's all on the B string. You're gonna put your index finger on the first fret, and then your pinky on the third fret. Got that? And then you're going to let go of the grip, and you're going to slide your pinky up from the third fret to the fifth fret. And then you're going to put your index finger on the first fret. And then he. He pulls it off. But you don't. You can just. You can just pick it so it's. And then you're gonna put your ring finger on the second fret of your G string. So it'll be. And then it does it again, but not the whole thing. So this is one out of four times in total. That would be the start of the second one right there. Cool. Okay, this next part is definitely trickier, but we are going to make it through, guys. Let me show you how it sounds, Sam. Cool. Let's get into it. Okay, so it's going to start with the first move that we just learned this back on that C major open chord. Then it's going to go to a D7. And here's your rhythm for that. 1, 2, 3, 4. And then we're gonna go to a G major 7 chord. And he. He pressed this kind of a weird way. He has this diagonal. It's like his middle finger is playing this note and also this note back here. And then he. He frets the rest of it like a regular G major 7 chord. Make sure that this note is ringing on the top. Alternatively, if you are more comfortable, you could put your thumb on the bass note and then fret it like this without the bar. You see how my thumb's over it? But this is how. How he does it. Yeah. Just got to get that top note to ring. So the first three chords are going. One more time. One, two, three. And then the next chord is going to be an A minor 11. The way that he does it, I think Is he picks this up to your. He doesn't pick up to the B string. He goes. And then, then he picks the B string and kind of goes down the chord. So those first four chords is. And then it does it again. Only this time instead of going to the A, the A chord, we're going to go back to the C open chord. And this time it's going to be like that's basically your C open chord but without your index finger. So it's going to be a C major 7. And then you're just going to put your index finger on and off. So those two times next to each other is this. And then does it again a third time back to the original way. And this time we don't go back. So after. So it's like the first time and then the second time, instead of going to the A chord, we go to the C open chord. And then the third time is the same as the fourth time as the first time. And the fourth time, after we play this, this A minor 11 chord, we're gonna play it again and we're gon to go to a B minor chord. It'll sound like this. This is the part where he goes.
And I hate coming down, coming down. And I hate coming down, coming down.
Got it. So just. Just to refresh your Brian, one more time, we have the original version and then the second version where the last chord is different, we go back to the C chord and then you have the original version again. And then on the fourth time, we're just gonna go to this new version. Starting with the A minor chord, we're just gonna go like this A minor 11.
To A, like a B minor 7.
And then to just an E minor open chord, just these two fingers. So it's gonna go, oops, E minor. And then we're gonna go to a D9 new chord. You don't have to. You don't have to get that top note. So it's gonna be. Okay. So the last part that you have to know is that on the fourth time, after we start the sequence starting with the A minor chord, we're gonna go to an E major 7. So it's gonna be like Anna.
And I hate coming down, coming down, Anna 2 coming down and down. And I hate coming down, coming down.
This is the fourth time.
And I hate coming down.
E major 7. And then the whole thing just repeats. Okay, I hope that was clear for you guys. It's pretty much just those two sections. And then that is the song. Let me know if this was clear. If you guys have any other questions. And as always, my channel's small. Some more requests. It's likely that I will get to them. And have a nice day. Bye.
