In this interview Aaron Jackson, VP of R&D at Clover Group International and CEO of One House, explains the vision and practical steps for creating a micro‑factory for on‑demand apparel production. He describes One House – a 4.5‑story R&D and think‑tank facility in Taiwan that brings together fiber development, yarn manufacturing, colourisation, stitching and software under one roof. Key projects include the acquisition of Katmandu’s Connect Colourisation technology, a water‑less, multi‑material printing system for nylon, polyester, polypropylene and merino, and Clover’s GoColor system that dyes finished garments (e.g., bras) after assembly. Jackson outlines how these technologies enable a “Micro‑Studio” – a container‑sized, end‑to‑end production line that can take a digital design, generate a 3D/2D pattern, print or dye the fabric, cut and sew the garment, and ship it within 72 hours. He discusses the challenges of material compatibility, colour on different substrates, automation of cutting and stitching, and the balance between offering consumer customization and preserving brand DNA. The conversation also covers the strategic choice of Taiwan as a hub, collaborations with universities and industry partners, and the broader ecosystem needed (raw‑material vendors, 3D software, robotics, bonding technologies) to make on‑demand, low‑volume manufacturing viable. Jackson ends with an optimistic vision that a fully equipped micro‑factory could be sold as a single container, lowering entry barriers for startups and young designers.
