Erik Olson explains exponential growth in bacteria, populations, and technology like Moore's Law. The total number of photos taken yearly doubles over time, creating rapid acceleration. This pressure to keep up with emerging opportunities is just math, not mystery.

This is the exponential growth curve. Quite a beautiful curve. It defines many things in nature. Bacteria growth, population growth. It also defines technology growth, right? Moore's Law is basically a variant of this. And what it's saying is over time, the amount of change is gonna double, double, double, double, right? It's gonna keep growing faster and faster. So when you come to a conference like this, you'll hear a lot of people talking about no time has been better. There's more change, there's more things. And when you look at all the different technologies that are available to us, there are only going to be more next year. I have a friend that's in a startup, and he's working on photo management. And basically what he told me was that every year the photos taken by all of us, right, doubles the amount taken out through all of history, right? So that's what exponential growth is. So when you feel this change, you feel this pressure to get in the game, this is what you're dealing with. Math. It's just math, right?
