In this podcast episode, host Will Richardson (51 to Carbon Zero) discusses new research from Corporate Knights' inaugural USA 25 ranking, which identifies the 25 most sustainable U.S. corporations. The ranking reveals that these firms generated over $1.15 trillion in revenue from sustainable products and services, with a sustainable‑investment ratio of about 62%—roughly six times the average of the broader S&P 500 (under 11%). Richardson highlights three top performers: Fluence (energy‑storage leader, doubled sustainability revenue in two years and now stores ~29 GW across 296 projects), NVIDIA (chipmaker whose latest GPUs are up to 25× more energy‑efficient per watt, giving a strong AI‑scale advantage), and Prologis (logistics real‑estate giant whose sustainability revenue has grown 239% annually since 2022). He contrasts this commercial momentum with a federal environment where policy is rolling back regulations on wind power and the EPA, noting that companies are investing because the financial returns, market demand, and measurable efficiency gains are compelling, not because regulators require it. Richardson then advises listeners to ask two questions within their own organizations: what share of revenue comes from sustainable offerings, and what share of investment backs those offerings. He urges firms to start measuring these metrics to close the sustainability gap. The episode ends with a recap of the $1 trillion revenue figure, the six‑fold investment ratio, and the three exemplar firms, followed by a call to action to join Richardson’s network, contact him, or refer enterprise leads. A brief promotion for Richardson’s Substack is also included.

Hey, thanks so much for listening. I would love to be able to help you more on what it is that you are listening to and why you're listening to me. If you could click on the link in the show notes, that would be awesome because it will help me define what it is that we should be talking about on this podcast. Before we start, here is the number that's stopped me. America's 25 most sustainable corporations pulled in over $1.15 trillion in revenue, and most of it came from sustainable products and services. All of this while federal policy was pulling hard in the opposite direction. I'm Will Richardson from 51 to Carbon Zero. Today we are looking at new research showing that US businesses is quietly ignoring the political noise and building the low-carbon economy anyway. This comes from Corporate Knights' first-ever USA 25 ranking reported by Tristan Bronker. And the headline finding is this: the companies building their business around sustainability are not slowing down, they are speeding up. Here is the proof. Across the whole S&P 500, the average sustainable investment ratio is under 11%. For the companies on this list, it is over 62%. That is roughly 6 times the investment rate of the wider market. These firms are not dabbling. They are rebuilding their business models for a low-carbon economy. So there are 3 leaders. And let me show you 3 of them. First, Fluence, top of the ranking, an energy storage company out of Virginia. It doubled its sustainability revenues in 2 years and put every pound of research and capital into one mission. It now stores nearly 29 gigawatts of renewable energy across 296 projects worldwide. Second, NVIDIA, the most valuable company on Earth and one of the fastest-growing shares of sustainable revenue on the list. Its chips are up to 25 times more energy efficient per watt than the older generation. At the scale AI is growing, that efficiency is serious competitive edge. And third, Prologis, a property giant with 1.3 billion square feet of space. Its sustainability revenues have grown 239% a year since 2022. Property is usually the sector we write off. Not this time. So the real story. Now, here is the part that matters. US federal policy has been unwinding environmental rules from wind power to the Environmental Protection Agency. The political signals point one way. The capital is moving the other way. These companies are not investing because a regulator asked them to do it. They are investing because the returns are real, the demand is real, and the efficiency gains are measurable. When business keeps building whatever the policy weather, it tells you the commercial case now stands on its own. So what it means for you. So what does this mean for your organization? Ask 2 questions: how much of our revenue is tied to sustainable products and services? And how much of our investment is backing it? The leaders on this list track both. Most companies track neither. Start measuring, and you have already started closing the gap. So here is the recap. Over $1 trillion in revenue, 6 times the market's investment rate, and firms like Fluence, NVIDIA, and Prologis proving that sustainability is now the growth strategy, not the cost. Tristan Bronker's research shows the market has already made its choice. If you want to be a part of our network, DM me or comment below.
