Reputation. You have continuous and ongoing awareness of your company's reputation and that of your top competitors. One of my favorite quotes is from Warren Buffett. It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. Five minutes. Your reputation is the new market currency that ties back to perceptions. People will work with you, buy from you and invest in you based on your reputation. Everything you do or say in life directly contributes to people's perception of you, who you are as a person and as a leader. Once upon a time, companies didn't have to worry much about it. What customers had to say about their brands, their opinions were shared with only a few people they knew and wanted to tell. But today we all know that we're a wide open book. Compliments complaints anytime, anywhere. Today, one customer's negative opinion about your company or your products can be spread around the world within moments and remain there available for others to read for years. So how do you protect your reputation? This kind of world? A continuous and ongoing awareness of your company's reputation and that of your top competitors. Technology can help and there are tools listed here. I want you to think about a very simple exercise that you can do from an internal and external perspective. If you look at this list of words, what three words would you use to describe you? And what three words would you use to have someone else describe you? So what three words would you use to describe yourself? And then what would someone that is outside of you use to describe you? Really think about how those words overlap. Another great exercise for your team. There are several things you need to really think about doing and be very clear on your strategy when it comes to reputation. You you've got to monitor your reputation. Communicate often. Be really clear about your position when you have a negative result or a negative comment and reply as quickly as you can. One thing that you'll notice about reputation, you probably already had these experiences. Some of the things that are going to be said about you may not be real. Have a plan. Have a crisis plan. Understand what you're going to do when the time arises when someone does say something about you that simply isn't true. Be accountable. Have a plan in place and make sure that you know at all times where you stand on reputation.
