What does your dream physical therapy cash based practice look like?

Aaron LeBauer, a physical therapist who built a cash-based practice, walks through the mindset shift required to charge patients directly ($100-$125 per hour) instead of billing insurance. He leads you through writing exercises to identify barriers, visualize your ideal practice, and plan concrete next steps.

Hello, good afternoon. My name is Aaron LeBauer from labourconsulting.com I am a physical therapist in Greensboro, North Carolina and my practice is called Labour Physical Therapy. I've built a cash based practice from the ground up and since I started it, many people have asked me, how did you do it? How can I do the same thing? And so what I did is I started putting together that information and answers to a lot of common questions on my blog, Labourer Consulting today. In this video, one of the things I want to do is help you kind of get in touch with some of the reasons you're actually watching the video, some of the thoughts that may be kind of sabotaging your success and some of the things that you can do to be successful and start to reframe your mind and your mindset, to kind of accept a new way of thinking and physical therapy. A big part of having a cash based practice is not just doing physical therapy but, but marketing it to patients and getting the word out to the public that the practice is available and you're here to help people. And a big block is that I have to now ask for money in exchange for my time rather than billing someone else an amount that's arbitrary based on my maximum payer average or payer load, whatever that term is. It's where I now ask $100 for my time and getting over that hump, saying I charge $125 for an hour. This huge mindset jump. Now a lot of people may say, oh, there's no way anyone's going to pay me $100 an hour when copays are 50. What you have to do is reconsider what you're offering to patients and what you can do with your time that you spend with them and how you and the patient are now going to be the ones deciding on the treatment and patients who value that will find you. But if you're thinking about a cash based practice or you're watching this video, it's likely it's crossed your mind. And so I want to just ask you a couple questions and you can get a pen and paper and I want you to write down the answers and these are for you and just for you to think about. The first question is what is the number one thing that is holding you back from starting a cash based practice or even just from starting a physical therapy private practice? What's the number one thing holding you back? What is, what does your dream practice look like? What does that look like? Close your eyes for a second and visualize walking in your front door, greeting your patient. What does the smell like? What is the atmosphere like? What's the vibe? Who are your patients? What does that look like to you? What is your dream? Who do you want to work with? Write those things down. Okay, next question. What are the obstacles in front of you that you need to overcome before you achieve your goals? Okay. And what do you need to achieve to realize or actualize or live your dream? Write them down. Even if you don't think it's, it's right, it doesn't matter. Write it down. Because only once we say something or write it down does it really become real. So why don't you write these things down and if you're inspired, it would be great. I'd love it if you would share at the bottom in the comments section. Share your thoughts, share some of the answers that you have with us because it won't only help you, it'll help other people who feel the same way, who maybe identify strongly with you or, you know, can't put it into words the exact same way as you do. So, you know, put those things down and then think about it. What, what can you do with that? You know, what's possible for you in your life right now, today that you can do to start knocking off some of these, some of these obstacles and achieving and working towards your goal? I'd love to hear from you. Thank you very much. Visit my blog, labourconsulting.com for more information on cash based practices and sign up. Right now there's a free ebook and if you sign up for it, you'll be one of the first people to be notified about my upcoming Signature Cash Based practice program, which will take you through the steps on how to build and start a successful cash based practice. Thank you very much and have a great day.
