Aaron Marcus explains when to list your email and website on an acting resume. If you have an exclusive agent, only their contact info goes on it. If you're self-marketing or freelancing, include your own email, phone, and professional website with your photos and reel.
Hi, my name is Aaron Marcus, America's premier acting and commercial modeling career coach, the founder of HowToModel.com, the author of How to Become a Successful Commercial Model, now in its 5th edition, and I've been making my living as an actor and a commercial model for over 26 years. So one of the questions that comes up a lot is, should people put their personal email address and their website, if they do have a website, on their resume? And it's a little— that's not really a yes or no kind of answer, so let me explain. If you're working with an agent, that agent is going to only want their contact information on the resume, so you absolutely would not have your personal email address or website. And the reason for that is agents are concerned if they submit you for a job, they want to make sure that the producer, director, casting people, they contact the agent and not the actor directly. And also for the future, let's say you do a job and they really like your work, they want to hire you again, they want to make sure that they continue to contact the agent and not the actor directly. So if you are working with an agent, you have an exclusive contract, only their contact information will be on there. Now, if you are marketing yourself on your own, you either don't have an exclusive contract with an agent or you have an agent but you also book things, you know, through your own marketing, then sure, yeah, you do want to have your email address and phone number. And if you do have a website that has your photos, maybe it has your resume, if you happen to have an acting reel or a voiceover reel, then certainly you're going to put that information on there as well. But it's It's all dependent upon your representation. So this is just one of the many topics that you're going to be learning at the Resume Secrets Online Workshop.
