Hi, my name is Aaron Marcus, America's premier acting and commercial modeling career coach, the founder of HowToModel.com, the author of How to Become a Successful Commercial Model, now in its 5th edition. And I've been making my living as an actor and a commercial model for over 26 years. I know this sounds like kind of a basic question, but I have had some people ask me this: why do we even need a resume? And actually, it's not such a crazy question and not such a simple question. I think it's actually— it's a very good one. So let me explain it to you. Basically, actors use resumes not so much for themselves, but it helps the people who are considering hiring the actor. And if you put yourself in the shoes of, let's say, a director, and you're thinking about bringing in somebody to read for a certain role, well, you're going to feel a lot more comfortable hiring this person, bringing them onto the set, if they've had some experience, if they've done some things in areas that you need them to be able to perform in. And so, you know, in most ways it's really— it's almost like a comfort level, just to make sure that you have the experience and the knowledge to be able to do what they need you to do so that you don't walk on the set and create all kinds of problems because you can't perform and you can't give a good performance, and then they have to stop production, recast, and things like that. So that's really what a resume is all about. It's giving people information about what you've done so that it helps relax them and gives them a better reason to bring you in for an audition and hopefully hire you.
