Aaron Marcus used HotelTonight to find cheap last-minute hotels in Manhattan while shooting Fox's Gotham as a local hire. Actors and models often pay for their own housing on set. He's running a workshop December 13 on recording auditions from home.
Hi, my name is Aaron Marcus, and welcome to my Acting and Modeling Quick Tips series. So this quick tip is an app that every actor and model needs to download. It's free, and it will save you hundreds and hundreds of dollars. So I am in the middle of shooting the Fox television show Gotham. I've got a week contract, and I was working in New York yesterday. And for a lot of shows, especially if you are co-starring in New York, You are considered a local hire no matter where you live, so it's up to you to find a place to stay. And so the wardrobe fitting and my— and the production office, they're based in Brooklyn, but the scene for my first day of shooting was actually in Manhattan. So I decided that I wanted to find a hotel in Manhattan, and as you can imagine, hotels are very expensive in Manhattan. So what I did was downloaded an app. It's called Hotel And basically, I found a very decent place. It's not a 5-star hotel for about $109, and it put me into a perfect location of right where I needed to be. I was able to easily drive to the set. I actually, I could have walked if I didn't have a car, but I decided to drive over there. And it's a really important app for you to get so that way, if you're traveling, you know, a distance, whether it's for a go-see, or a shoot, whether it's for an acting audition, whether it's for a job, and it's up to you to find a place, HotelTonight is a great app to use. So anyhow, I just wanted to share that with you. I will be giving you more information about my experience on the set of Gotham. I can just tell you very briefly, everyone has just been incredible. And what I always find, and this is for every kind of production, it starts from the director down, or actually, I guess really producers all the way down. But everybody's been great and they've been a lot of fun to work with. Certainly, I can't give you any information about the show. I mean, you do sign a non-disclosure agreement, so I can't give you any specific details, but I can tell you it was a lot of fun and I'll be giving you more information about it.
