Aaron Marcus explains two audition techniques: establish a life before your first line, and add 2-3 seconds of silence after your final line instead of saying thank you.

Hi, here's another quick tip with me, Aaron Marcus. There are 2 things that you need to do at every audition, and a lot of times actors really are not thinking about this. They're so concerned about the words that once they get finished saying all the words, that they just end things very abruptly. So the 2 things you absolutely need to do is create a life for you at the very beginning of the audition and create a life at the end of the audition. So like, for instance, if the very first words in— whether it's a monologue, TV, uh, film audition, doesn't make any difference— uh, your character is running into the building, well, you need to be feeling that before you say your first word because it will completely change the way that you say your lines, knowing that you are really hustling to get into this building. The other thing too is when the scene ends, don't end the scene with the last words and then just stop. And please don't ever say thank you at the end of your read. A lot of times people will finish up and then they go, oh, okay, well, thank you very much. Don't do that. What you want to do is when the scene ends, Add another 2 or 3 seconds to the scene, then end it. So let me give you an example. Let's say in this particular scene you're talking with somebody and then the person walks out of the room. This is what I would be doing. I finish talking to the person and then I would follow them out of the room. That way, as people are really into watching your performance, you don't make things end abruptly. You let it phase out a little bit because when you jolt people with saying the last word and then just stopping it, all of a sudden it's kind of jarring and it really takes some of the performance away. So always end with adding another 2 or 3 seconds at the end of, you know, after your last word and really finish the scene. Hope this was helpful to you. Please, if you're watching this on YouTube, give it a thumbs up. If you're watching this on Facebook, like it.
