Aaron Marcus shares how losing an audition led to booking a different role instead. He frames auditions as small deposits that build relationships with casting directors and producers, not just one-off chances to land a part.

Here's another acting and modeling tip from me, Aaron Marcus. So you walked out of an audition, you thought everything went well, you were happy with it, and you didn't hear anything from the agent, so you're assuming you didn't get the booking. And then you find out that you didn't get the role because you know somebody else who booked the job that you auditioned for, and you start feeling bad. Let me just tell you, not booking the audition can be good. And let me tell you why. This just happened to me. So it was about 3 weeks ago, did an audition, uh, and for a feature film and didn't get the role. And it was crazy. Yesterday I got an email from the agent who submitted me, uh, and I was offered a contract by, uh, producers. It was for a different role. And so what, what I learned was Yeah, the part that I auditioned for, for whatever reason, I was not the perfect person for that specific role, but they liked my read. They liked what I did in there, and there was another character that they thought I was better for, and they offered it to me. Didn't have to re-audition, didn't have any callbacks. They just gave it to me. So, you know, after an audition, whether you book the job or not, View it this way. It's like making small deposits at the bank, and sometimes it takes a while for those small deposits to begin to really build up to something. And the more you audition, especially if it's with the same casting director, or if it's a TV show and the producers, you know, get a chance to see it, or directors who are working on the show a lot, they get a chance to see you over and over again. That can be very helpful to you. And just because you didn't book it doesn't mean that something else isn't going to come along, even on that same project.
