Hi, I'm Aaron Marcus, and welcome to my quick tip for actors and models. I just had a really interesting experience, and I wanted to share it with you. I got an email to audition for a voiceover job, and so I had all the copy, all the words that I needed to record. I was told when they needed it back, but there was no information about what kind of slate they needed, if they needed a slate. And just to make sure that you know, a slate is Basically identifying you. Sometimes a slate can mean just saying your name. Sometimes it can be your name and the agent's name. If it's an audition where you're on camera, it could be your height, could be your weight, could be the character's name. They're all different, different ways of slating. So you always need to ask either your agent or the casting director how they want you to slate. So I sent an email to the agent And I— about how they, you know, how she wanted me to slate. At the beginning of the audition, at the end of the audition, do I put the agent's name in there? How do I label the actual audition itself? Do I put the agent's name? I just didn't know how to do it. So I sent an email, didn't get a response. Sent another email, didn't get a response. And so I just decided, you know, it's so funny, in today's time period, we're so used to either texting or sending emails. I just thought, you know, I've got to call the agent because I need to get this thing done. She needed it by the end of the day. So I called. Really glad that I did because the way that they wanted me to do the slate, it was a little bit unusual and there was a very specific way. And basically I was told that if you didn't follow their directions, they wouldn't even listen to it. So the point is, if you're not hearing back from your agent or any industry professional and you're trying to get information, don't take that as a negative response. They're not interested in talking with you. Maybe they didn't receive the email. As it turns out, in my case, the agent simply didn't get it. Sometimes it goes into spam filters. If they use Gmail, it might go into a promotional folder. So the point is, if you're not hearing back from someone when you're using email, use the phone, get in touch with them, because when you need to get certain information You've got to find a way to get it.
