Acting coach Aaron Marcus says many casting directors are uncomfortable with handshakes due to germ concerns. Greet verbally first, then wait to see if they extend a hand before shaking. Let them take the lead to avoid awkwardness.

Here's another acting and modeling quick tip with me, Aaron Marcus. Well, this might go down as being one of the weirdest, maybe most unusual kind of quick tip I've ever created, but let me explain it to you. So, look, in the normal world, you go to a meeting, you sit down with other people, you shake their hands, you say hello to them, you talk to them for a minute, you get down to business. Well, things are a little bit different when you go to a casting. For whatever reason, there are a number of people in the industry who are not really comfortable with shaking hands. And I understand they're going to be shaking hands with a lot of people. They're concerned about germs, diseases. I mean, the fact is we do have soap. We do have hand sanitizers. But hey, look, whatever it is, if somebody is uncomfortable with it, then certainly follow their lead. Here's a suggestion. Whenever I go into a casting, I, you know, certainly I'm going to say hello, but I don't immediately put my hand out to shake somebody's hand because I just don't know how they're going to react to it. So basically, follow their lead. And if somebody extends their hand, certainly shake it. If they don't extend their hand, then you're not caught in a really awkward position with your hand out and they're just kind of standing there staring at you. So anyhow, I just wanted to let you know about that and give you a little heads up because not everybody is comfortable shaking hands with lots of people.
