Aaron Marcus explains which work clothes you can deduct on your taxes. Ordinary clothes like sweaters and pants don't count, but stage costumes you can't wear anywhere else do. He recommends talking to a CPA or tax attorney before claiming anything.

Hi, I'm Aaron Marcus, and welcome to another one of my acting and modeling quick tip series videos. So first of all, I'm dressed up a little bit today because I'm about to do an online audition for a feature film. But hey, I wanted to share with you some information about a question that I get all the time, but especially around tax season. And the question is, can I deduct wardrobe that I purchased for a job? So like, for instance, if you were asked to buy a you know, a black V-neck sweater or a very specific kind of sports coat or blouse or pants for an acting or modeling job, can you deduct it? So just to put this out front, like, I'm not a CPA, I'm not a tax attorney. I can only share with you information that I've been told and follow, but certainly always run this by a professional before you use it in your taxes. But here's the deal. If you purchase something that you could potentially wear in public, you cannot deduct it from your taxes. However, if it is something that is so unique and can only be worn during a performance and not in public, then you can deduct it from your taxes as an expense. Perfect example is, let's say you were performing in Las Vegas and you're on stage and you have some really crazy elaborate wardrobe that really could only be worn during work and it's not something you're going to wear when you, you know, go to the, you know, Starbucks to get a cup of coffee, then that would be a situation where you could deduct the wardrobe purchase from your taxes. Otherwise, it's just something you're going to keep, something hopefully you can wear, but you cannot deduct it from your taxes. So I wanted to share that with you. Also, just to remind you, I've got a great great workshop, online workshop, How to Save Money on Your Taxes. You can click the link below to get all the details. It will be really helpful to you. I have a tax attorney who also happens to be an actor who's going to share with you a step-by-step process of what he does to prepare for his taxes. We'll talk about things that will save you money, save you time. It will be an incredible learning experience for you. So even though it is online, I do have a limited amount of space. So register as soon as possible. Click on the link below, get the information, and you can sign up there as well. I'm Aaron Marcus, and if you have any tax tips, I'd love to have you share them with others right here. Thanks so much, and I'll be talking with you soon.
