Hi, I'm Aaron Marcus, and welcome to my Acting and Modeling Tips channel. If you're not familiar with me, I've been very fortunate to have been able to make a living as an actor and a commercial model for over 30 years. Just a regular guy, and I've booked over 1,200 jobs so far. Perhaps you've seen my recurring role on House of Cards, worked on Gotham, Mr. Robot, Halt and Catch Fire, Rectify, did ads for AT&T, McDonald's, Toys R Us, and had a chance to work on Philomena, Fishbowl, Number of feature and independent films as well. So what I want to tell you about quickly here is if you are either just getting started in the acting and modeling industry, or you've been in the industry for a while and you need to find a local photographer, how do you go about doing that? So one of the ways that you can do it— certainly you can do a Google search, I mean, that's the easy way— but to go to a specific place, you might want to check out— there's an organization called ASMP. It's American Society of Media Photographers, so it's asmp.org. And go to their website and you can go state by state. There are a number of photographers who you will not want to contact if they're doing architecture, if they're doing year-end reports for corporations. They're not the people you want to see. You do want to check out some of the commercial photographers or even the assistant photographers. And it might be a good way to either market yourself to those people in case they are shooting some commercial modeling ads, or if you want to do some test shots, try to look for the assistant photographers. Another way of testing out some ideas— now this is assuming that you, perhaps you've read my book, How to Become a Successful Actor and Model, and you know exactly what you need to do to create the perfect commercial shot. Then what you can also do is find some students who are taking photography classes at a community college, university, just a regular 4-year college and speak to the instructor or the person who's teaching photography classes and see if there are any students who are interested in building up their commercial portfolio. You're not going to charge your regular hourly modeling fee. They're not going to charge you anything because they're students, and this is a great way of testing out ideas. And I know people who've created an entire portfolio at no cost just from doing this. So anyhow, I hope this was helpful to you. I also want to let you know there is a great blog that I wrote, How to Get work in a small market. And just use the link below and it will take you right to my blog.
