Hi, I'm Aaron Marcus, and I've been a full-time actor for nearly 30 years. I've booked over 1,200 jobs, and welcome to my quick tip series. Today I'm going to be talking about something I hadn't thought about, I hadn't used for many years until I had to use it today, and it's called an ear prompter. You might have heard of it, you might not have, so I want to give you a quick tip about ear prompters. So basically, you will see certain people using ear prompters if you are an on-camera narrator and and you don't have access to a teleprompter, you might use an ear prompter. Some newscasters will be using it. Maybe some reporters will be using it. And so here's what an ear prompter is all about. So for the ear prompter that I use or have used and use today, it's a wireless ear prompter. So this goes around my neck. And there— and this will go under my shirt. There is a little plug here that goes into this little micro cassette tape recorder. Now, some people use digital ones. I assume that's what most people use today. I actually like the older version that has a tape. It's easier for me to find my mark on here. And then the other part is— this is pretty cool too— you've got a little earpiece and there's a little battery that you can see. You push this thing down and you shove it in your ear. And basically what happens is you record the entire script right on here. And I'll do another quick, quick tip for you to show you some strategies of how to use it. Today is just an introduction. And then you hit the play button and you hear it in your ear. And you start talking. And you don't see it. People don't hear it. And you can go on for page after page after page and just have this script sitting in your ear the whole time. Now, there are hardwire ear prompters as well where it's— you don't have this wireless thing. Especially for women, if they have longer hair and they can take like a little earbud and just kind of wrap it around and put it in here. And as long as you're, you're, you're Ears turn a little bit to the side, you don't really see it. So anyhow, I wanted to introduce you to the ear prompter, and I will do another quick tip to show you some of the tricks and techniques to make it really look good and sound good. I'm Aaron Marcus.
