Aaron Marcus explains what to do when you can't make an in-person audition or go-see. Contact your agent or casting director, explain why you can't attend, and ask if you can submit a self-tape or photos instead. The worst they say is no, and asking costs nothing.

Welcome to another quick tip with me, Aaron Marcus. I got an email from someone who had the opportunity to audition for a TV spot along with her twin sister. The only problem was she was available, but her sister was not available for the audition date, and they made it really clear that you had to audition in person. And she contacted me and asked if I had any suggestions. So here was a thought that I had, and I wanted to share it with you as well. Contact the casting director, you know, the one who offered you the opportunity to audition, and let the casting director know your sister's not available. But here's what you can do. You can actually shoot the audition at home, send it up to the casting director, and if the casting director is still interested, you, you know, tell them that you can go there and audition even though your sister can't be there live and see what they say. And I can tell you, especially in major markets, They want you to be there partially because they've got so many actors that they can choose from who can be there. They'd rather see you in person. But I guess my overall feeling is, why not ask? You know, you just never know. The worst they can do is say no. You know, and if you ask very nicely, you just say, look, you know, I'm not available. If this is for you, I'm not available the day of the audition. Could I possibly, you know, shoot it from home and send it up to you? The worst they can do is say, nah, we really need to see you live. Best-case scenario, as in which case what happened here with her sister and her twin, they said, okay, and that's exactly what she's doing. The same thing holds true for a go-see. If you can't attend the go-see, I always— this is what I do— I always ask the agent, would they allow me to shoot a digital picture today and then upload it and send it to them? And once again, you never know. Quite often they will still say no. But sometimes they say yes. So I guess my overall philosophy is always ask, ask in a nice way, don't sound angry if they say no, understand it, and just say, well, thanks for the opportunity. Hopefully we'll get a chance to work together in the future. But you never know when you ask. I'm Aaron Marcus, and if you are watching this on YouTube, please give it a thumbs up.
