Aaron Marcus teaches actors and models how to access genuine emotion on camera. Ask the photographer what your character feels or wants, recall a personal memory that matches that feeling, turn away briefly, then return to the camera with the real emotion. Here's another acting and modeling quick tip with me, Aaron Marcus. If you are attending a go-see or you are on a photo shoot, here's a recall technique that I created that will be invaluable to you. So the very first thing you need to do is when you're on the set, you're about ready to be shot or at a go-see, ask the photographer what is needed. What's the character thinking? What's going on here? I know this is a modeling job, but for me, these are all acting jobs except I don't have lines to memorize. So hopefully the photographer will be able to give you some specific information. If you are a business person and you ask, what are you looking for? Well, the guy's frustrated. Okay, so it doesn't really tell me anything. Then I'll follow up, why is the guy frustrated? At all the other banks in town, they just keep turning him down. They don't treat him like a human. He's just a number to them. Okay, got it. Now sometimes you might just be told, I don't know. The guy's frustrated. Let me see it. In which case, you need to make a decision as to why that person is frustrated. Don't play it safe. Don't try to not make mistakes. You make a decision as to why this person's frustrated. If you do get specific information, then what you need to do is this: use my recall method. Think of a real experience in your life that will give you the same kind of feeling that they're asking for, even if it's in a different kind of situation, as long as it's It will give you the same kind of feel. Then you slightly turn your head away from the camera. And I might even put my hand up and just say, oh, could I just have a second? And then I will say a word or 2 words or make a sound, whatever it takes for me to relive that experience so that I can feel the emotions. Then I bring it up to the camera. So it's slightly off camera, say a word or 2, then come back with the emotions. That is how you create Powerful photos, believable expressions, which is what they're looking for. And then on the set, what you want to be doing is giving a whole variety and many layers of expressions and emotions. If you, if you get a copy of my book, How to Become a Successful Actor or Model, I walk you through this entire process. You can find the book on my website, howtoactamodel.com. So let me just tell you, if for any reason They say to you, I don't want to hear anything. Don't make any sounds. Then what you do is— it's called an internal monologue. Then you think the words to yourself. So anyhow, that is an amazing quick tip, something that I use for every go-see, for every modeling job that I have.
