Hi, my name is Aaron Marcus, America's premier acting and commercial modeling career coach, the founder of howtomodel.com, the author of How to Become a Successful Commercial Model, and I've been making my living as an actor and a commercial model for over 26 years. For those of you who've been following me for a while, normally don't see me dressed quite like this with a suit and tie, and normally it's jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, vests in the winter, But I just came back from auditioning for an HBO television series, and I was playing a staffer in the White House. So I had to look a little bit different, and I wanted to get this information to you as soon as possible. So as soon as I got home, started working on this. I had mentioned in a recent video blog something about ADR, which is additional dialogue replacement or additional dialogue recording. And basically what happens is there are talent that get hired to do ADR work. Where they need background noises, people talking on the street, people talking in a bar, and they need a line from somebody. You're not seeing it all. Or sometimes they need to replace a line that was recorded by an actor, and that can happen for a variety of reasons. Most of the time there's some technical issues. It's just not a really clean sound, and that's what happened to me. I'm working as Dr. Stephen Leopold on the television series Do No Harm. It's a new NBC show, and And recorded or shot a scene, and there was a lot of noise in the room. It was a large function that was taking place. So I went to LA and went to the Universal Studios and went to the recording studio to redo a couple of lines, and that way they can have a very clean track with no other background noise with people talking in the background. So anyhow, just to share with you very quickly what takes place. So you go in there They printed out my lines, so I had them put them up on a little music stand, and then there's a huge monitor and they will play the scene. And the trick is you've got to be able to make your words sound like they're coming from your mouth at the exact and correct time. And so here's the trick. The technology is great today, and basically you've got a headset on, and in the headset you will hear a series of 3 beeps. So it will go beep, beep, beep, and then where the 4th beep should take place, which is silent, that's where you start your line. And as long as you get that timing down, you will have it really perfectly in sync with the way that your mouth is going to be moving. And even if it's off just a little bit, they can always fix it digitally. So I did it in one take and had it, and then the producer asked me to try it a couple of other ways, a little bit softer, a little bit louder. And then we tried some wild track sounds where somebody was giving a talk. They wanted to hear my reaction to that person even though you don't see me, just so they could have it in case they needed it. So it was a great experience. It went very, very quickly, and I will be in the 4th episode of the NBC TV series Do No Harm. So anyhow, just wanted to share that with you. I'm Aaron Marcus.
