Acting coach Aaron Marcus drove 2.5 hours to a commercial audition and was asked to read for a TV series instead. He didn't book the commercial but got called weeks later to book the TV role. He learned that showing up to auditions, even inconvenient ones, can lead to unexpected opportunities.

Hi, my name is Aaron Marcus. I'm America's premier acting and commercial modeling career coach, the author of How to Become a Successful Commercial Model, founder of howtomodel.com, now in its 5th edition, and I've been making my living as an actor and a commercial model for over 26 years. I'm going to be creating a, a series of blog videos where I'm going to be sharing information with you about an audition I had, rehearsals, the booking, and the shooting of an NBC TV series that I got. So this first— the first video that I'm putting together is You Never Know What Can Happen. And basically, here's what took place. I got a phone call from my agent about auditioning for a TV commercial. So I make about a 2.5-hour drive, go to the TV commercial audition, and when I finished, the casting director said to me, Hey, look, while you're here, I'm going to be casting for a television show that's going to be shooting in the area. I'd like to have you read for it. I said, great. So basically it was all improvisation. I had a general idea of what was going on, tried out a couple things. We tried it a couple different ways. It was pretty fast. And as it turns out, didn't book the TV commercial, and I just never heard anything from the TV show, so I just figured I didn't get it. And last week, all of a sudden, I get a phone call from the agent saying, hey, they want to book you for the TV show, for the part that I auditioned for. Which was really cool. So I guess the, you know, the point is you never know what can happen. What I can tell you is that when you do go out and you do audition and you try to make things happen, then there's always a possibility that things can happen. And it would have been very easy to turn the audition down thinking, you know, I really don't want to spend 5 hours in the car. I really don't want to go to this TV commercial. It's just too far away. They're seeing tons of people. Well, you know, the fact is— Booked a television series, and that was pretty cool. So once again, my name is Aaron Marcus.
