Hi, my name is Aaron Marcus, and I want to share some really important information with you. I talk about this in both my Book the Job online program mentoring workshops, in-person workshops. This question comes up all the time: how to find the right monologue for you. And that, that's hard. It's a difficult thing to figure out. So let me give you some really key pieces of information that will help you make the right decision. First of all, you have to know who you are. You need to know what kind of roles are going to be right for you, what things you can connect with. What you want to do is find a monologue that is, number one, age-appropriate, content-appropriate, a monologue that you can really connect with, that you understand. Some of the other things too is figuring out who are you talking to in this piece. You know, a lot of times people will say, well, I'm talking to people. I'm talking to myself. That's not what monologues are going to be if you want to make them effective. You have to figure out who you are talking to because if you were talking to a brother, to a parent, to a boyfriend, to an ex-girlfriend, all those Different types of people will bring a different read for you. So make a very strong decision. Place the person in the room where you're doing the monologue. You don't want to be wandering around like you're playing the audience. Have them in a specific spot. And the, uh, the other thing too is, uh, where to actually find monologues. Look, there are lots of places to find them. So some of the key factors: make sure it's age-appropriate, make sure the content is something you can connect with, make sure you know who you are talking to in the scene, and most importantly, really enjoy it.
