These 3 self-tip editing mistakes will ruin your audition. Watch this video and learn how to avoid them. I also have a great bonus video for you, How Successful Actors Stay Motivated Through Setbacks. This is your actor career guide. Okay, let's get started. Hi, I'm Aaron Marcus, and welcome to the Acting and Modeling Quick Tips channel and the Actor Career Center. Look, pretty much everybody is doing self-tapes today. I know there are some casting directors that will allow a certain amount of people to come into a casting office. Some people do live self-tapes. As a matter of fact, that's one of the union rules, that they have to allow people to do live virtual Auditions if they want. Some people just aren't set up for self-tapes or they don't like doing them. But look, I've had probably about— I've been hired, I don't know, maybe 25, 30 times to do a casting for an infomercial company. It's pretty much— they're pretty much infomercials. And one thing that I noticed, there were 3 mistakes that actors were making. Not everybody, but a number of people. And look, for me as an actor who does some casting periodically, look, I'm, I'm okay with this. Some casting directors aren't, and they will not be happy about it. They might not even watch everything. So I want to make sure that you know what these mistakes are so you can avoid them. Before I share the first one with you, just wanted to let you know I have a great— it's a brand new website, howtoactandmodel.com. When you go there to sign up to be on my free mailing list, I will send you a really helpful bonus video, 6 Secrets to Mastering Home Auditions. You really want to watch this. So the very first mistake that I find people making is— I'm kind of laughing a little bit— people just don't know The importance of this, but when they're getting started with their audition, instead of allowing the casting directors to actually watch the beginning of the audition, they are sending everything from the very beginning. And this is what I mean. They're getting ready to shoot. If they're shooting on a laptop, they might be reaching in to hit the record button. They go back to wherever they're supposed to go. And then they start. You, you don't want to do that. Casting directors don't want to see all of the, you know, pre-audition stuff. You're wasting their time. It looks unprofessional. So make sure that everything is edited out until right before you start the audition. Now, the audition might start with you You know, watching somebody walk into a room and then you say your first line. But where— whatever it is, just make sure you don't have any other extraneous information there. The other thing too is at the very end, people finish the audition, they go in, they, they stop the record. Get rid of that. Look, these are really simple edits that you can make. Look, maybe, maybe at some point I'll create a quick tip video just on basic editing, and I'll walk you through the process. It really is very simple. The other thing too is you don't want to have fades, things looking fancy, doing production work. You don't want music in the background. You're not there trying to sell yourself as a producer or as an editor. So don't try to make things look fancy. Just make it simple. Make sure it looks good, but just allow the casting directors to watch your performance, period. If you haven't done this yet, don't forget, subscribe, click the notification bell so you always know when I upload a new video, and most importantly, share, share the link with your fellow actors so that way we can continue to build a community of actors who are learning from each other and sharing information with each other. I did promise a bonus video for you, and if you look right up here, and it's basically how successful actors stay motivated, uh, when they're going through tough times. This will be really helpful to you. I'm Aaron Marcus, and I can't wait to talk with you again soon. See ya.
