Aaron Marcus explains the three-copy voucher system for on-set invoices: one for the client, one for talent, one for the agent. Many agents now send only a PDF, which causes problems. Get physical copies printed, or photograph the signed voucher and email it to your agent as backup.

Here's another acting and modeling quick tip from me, Aaron Marcus. I was on a set the other day. I had a full-day commercial print booking, and I've seen this happen before, and I want to make sure you know how to deal with this properly. At the very end of the day, you will be filling out a voucher with all the information. That's the invoice. And then typically you've got to give one to— one copy to whoever is paying for the job. You keep a copy and you want to keep it for life, never throw it away. And then one goes to the agent so the agent can start the billing process. So let me just show you really quickly what a typical kind of voucher looks like. It's kind of like this. It's 3 color-coded copies. You just write your information on the front. It will go all the way through all the copies. And that's how it works. What I find is though, a lot of times today, agents will just have their models download a PDF from their website so you have one copy. The problem is— and this is something that happened on set— someone came in, they only had one copy. The person from the ad agency needed a copy for invoicing. So if you only have one copy and give it to the art director or creative director or whoever is taking care of the invoicing, then you have nothing. You don't have any copies for yourself or anything to send to your agent. So here's what I suggest. If your agent does have like a regular voucher that has 3 color-coded copies, then absolutely get it. If they don't and you are just printing it from, from the agent's website, make sure you print at least 2 copies. You can always either fax a copy over to your agent. But here's something else that you can also do if for some reason you made the mistake and you only have 1 copy. Have it filled out, have it signed, and then take a picture of it with your cell phone. And that way you can email it to your agent. You will have a copy on your phone. You can always print it out that way, and that way the client can get the invoice. So just wanted to share that with you. It will save you a lot of problems. And like I said before, you want to hold on to your vouchers forever. Never throw them away, because what happens sometimes is you will do a job and let's say there's a 12-month usage for this particular ad. And all of a sudden, 2 years later, you see your ad running. Well, if you don't have your voucher to prove that it says there was only a 12-month usage, you're not going to get paid any additional money. So never throw your vouchers away. Hey, if you have any tricks or any special things that you would like to share with others about things to do on a set that will be really helpful to both actors and models, please post it here. If you're watching this on YouTube, please give it a thumbs up. If you're watching this on Facebook, like it. Feel free to share this with all of your friends throughout social media, and looking forward to talking with you soon. I'm Aaron Marcus.
