Aaron Marcus walks models through getting paid after a job. Industry standard is up to 90 days. For independent work, send a polite email listing job details. If nothing works, file small claims. With an agent, frame it as a team problem and let them handle it.

Here's another Acting and Modeling Quick Tip with me, Aaron Marcus. If you did a job, let's just say a modeling job, and you haven't gotten paid, what do you do? Well, here are a couple of options. Number one, first of all, you need to know that it typically takes up to 90 days to get paid for a modeling job. Don't like it, that's just the way it's always been. So never contact an agent, don't contact a client about payment until 90 days or, you know, right before 90 days is up. If you booked the job on your own, you have a couple of options. Certainly, send an email to the client or whoever you booked the job with, or send them a letter. That way, you know they're going to get it. And look, your initial contact with them, you don't want to sound angry or threatening or anything like that. Just want to send a letter saying— and give them all the details, who the job was for, the photographer, and the date. And, hey, I just wanted to let you know it's almost 90 days. I just wanted to remind you that I haven't gotten paid yet. Okay, so that's the best route. If you're finding they're just not budging, you think they're not going to pay you, there's always small claims court. And you can just check out how to file a claim in small claims court in your area. And I know people who've been very successful with that, but that, that will really be a last resort. The other thing is, if you're working with an agent, what you want to do is once again give the agent all the details. Date, photographer, uh, client, you know, how long you worked, you know, how much you should be getting paid. But here's the key thing. You never want to contact an agent and say, hey, it's been 90 days. I haven't gotten paid yet. What's going on? Your agent is part of your team. They are working with you. So when you send an email to the agent or call the agent, just want to let you know, uh, it's been almost 90 days. We haven't gotten paid yet. And just by changing that one word from I haven't gotten paid to we haven't gotten paid, it changes the whole texture of, of the, uh, of the note. And it sounds like, hey, you're just encouraging, you're a team player here, uh, can you help me out? And so really that's the best approach. And not to say that it never happens. Of course, sometimes people don't get paid for their work, but it's rare, especially if you've gone through an agent. You know, the agents know who they're dealing with. And it's really rare that you don't get paid. So anyhow, I just wanted to share that information with you. Remember, you're working as a team with your agent. Don't threaten the agent. And hopefully you will get paid. If you are watching this on Facebook, please give it a thumbs up. Or actually, on Facebook, if you would like it.
