In this video, I'm going to be sharing with you why I accepted an audition for a role I knew I wasn't going to get. And actually, I think it was a really good choice and a really good decision. Also, watch this to the end. I've got a really good bonus video for you. It's Don't Ruin Your Audition. Learn the best way to handle audition notes. Okay, let's get started. Hi, I'm Aaron Marcus, and welcome to the Acting and Modeling Quick Tips channel and the Actor Career Center. Look, I don't know if you ever took on an audition that you thought, I think I'm wasting my time here, it doesn't make any sense, it's not right for me. But I did, and, and I'll tell you why. There, there was an audition that was shooting across the country for me. They, they asked to have me state in the slate whether I was willing to work as a local hire. Now let me just tell you, I believe that they're not allowed to do that for union actors, and, and I could be wrong. And if you, if you know the answer to this, please share it, share it with us. But I believe with the new union contract They can ask actors if they are willing to work as a local hire. If they only want to hire actors who live within a certain amount of mile radius of where they're shooting, then the audition can only be sent out to those people. So by asking if you're willing to work as a local hire, Not only do I think it's— they're not allowed to do it, but that means there's no way they're going to bring me in. It's a— it's— it was a short film, so I'm sure it's— it's a lower budget. And for them to fly me out, put me up, I don't know, seems pretty doubtful to me. And I kind of felt like I was wasting my time with it. And if I happen to book it and they do pay for all that, I'll let you know. But I can't imagine that happening. But let me tell you why I actually accepted the audition. Number one, it was an interesting role, something I'd never done before in my life, and I thought it could be interesting. But the main reason was because this is a casting director I had met literally a couple of decades ago. As a matter of fact, I remember once I was doing a workshop and I hired her to come in as a guest speaker to talk at the workshop. So I— she probably doesn't remember me, but I did meet her many, many years ago. And I thought, what better way to reintroduce myself to a casting director than by having her watch Me audition. So that really was my main reason for agreeing to do an audition for a job I know I'm just not going to get. So I just wanted to share that with you because sometimes you want to make decisions not just based on, on money and things like that, but there could be other factors That make accepting the audition a really smart business move. And I believe that this was a really good business move for me because maybe there will be another project that comes up that's not a really low-budget kind of project and she'll keep me in mind assuming she likes my audition. I thought it was pretty good. I was very happy with it. So always don't just think about how much money can I make from this particular role as to whether you're going to take it on or not. If you ever experienced an audition that you weren't really sure if you, if you should do it or not, please share it with us so that way we can learn, you know, from you as well.
